My Own

My Own

A Poem by J Mantle
"

Revised: July 30, 2000

"

I think I’m starting to be on my

own,

starting to become really free –

able to spread the wings I once

held together so tight.

Now making my way through the

star-kissed night.

I am free to the wind

that once whistled past my ears,

the warmth of my heart

melting away the breezes cold.

Beauty, thoughts of all comfort

I dearly hold.

I now look at myself with

admiration

and the block of steel courage.

Seeing myself stand so tall

as the trees.

Freedom to do as I please.
