I Am Finally Me

Written: November 3, 1996

My heart has filled

with all that it truly knows.

Years of denial

have only flared scars.

What I have become today

is something that my soul

has always been.

My mind needed that chance

to catch up with my heart.

I can only explain to a certain degree

but my path was chosen

for me long ago.

I was too stubborn and frightened

to follow.

I am still her.

Myself - new and improved.

I feel life

and it's mine

and I smile and sigh with peace.
