Welcome to SocietyA Story by BlossomA short story about my opinion on how to live in society today Trigger Warning: briefly mentions eating disorders, slight cursing, brief mentions of SA Welcome to society! Before you go, let me inform you of some things. No matter who you are, you have a set of standards you must fit into in order to be fully accepted in our community. These standards vary depending on who you are. I will break it down for you. To begin, let's talk about the females. To be a female and fit in, you must be skinny; however, you can’t be too skinny, or else you’ll be called anorexic. You must wear makeup and show skin. However, if you wear too much makeup, you are fake and if you show too much skin, you are a s**t who’s asking to be sexually assaulted. While we are on the topic of sexual assault, you better be prepared to be catcalled walking down the street and not be caught alone when it is dark out. Along with this, you must have a low body count or else men will assume you are a w***e. Another fact is that you are living in a man’s world. This means that, in school, you will be dress coded for showing skin and will now have to miss class and lessons due to distracting the men around you. Now let’s discuss the standards for men. As a man, you are seen as superior to women; however, with this level of power, you must be strong and tough and never show any sign of weakness. This means you can not show any signs of emotions. Another standard that comes with being the superior gender, is you must become or act like a f**k-boy by the time you reach high school. This means that you must have a high body count or pretend that you do. Another step to remain superior is that you must be into sports. You must either play sports or you can enjoy watching sports; however, the best option is to play sports because that means you are athletic, and being athletic can help you achieve the f**k-boy status. The last standard for men I will talk about is that you must pretend to not be smart. You may be a genius; however, if you want to remain superior, you must come off as a person who does not care about school or your grades and at least pretend that you're failing in school. The last category I will discuss is for those a part of the LGBT community. For you, the standards are harder. As a whole, you must be prepared to be told you are too young because no one younger than 20 should be able to know if they aren’t straight or cis. If you identify as a different gender, you must not make it too obvious. You must understand that not everyone will agree with your choice of gender. And if you are going to come out as transgender, you must not be seen as too feminine or masculine. For example, if you are assigned female at birth and come out as a trans man, you must not be seen in feminine clothes, or else you’re faking. If you identify as a sexuality that is not straight, you must be ready to be told you are going to Hell. You also must not make it your whole life. This means, no kissing the same sex in public and not being open about your sexuality to every person you pass. If you identify as aromantic or asexual, you must be prepared to be told you don’t exist. You also have to be prepared to be judged and told that you just “haven’t met the right person”. To conclude, you are allowed to live in our society; however, you must be prepared to change your whole personality just to fit in. You must be prepared to be judged and outcasted strictly because of how you act or look. If this is your idea of the way life should be, welcome. If this is not how you believe society should be, just remember that people, as a whole, are the ones who can change society.
