Winter or Summer

I can’t decide what’s more cruel

 

Winter’s long, smoggy nights

Dimming all to eye and mind

Driving me back into my den

Keeping my eyes from beaming

Curbing me from ornate dreaming.

Or 

Cuckoo’s tuneful coo

Puzzling senses with myriad hints

Prodding me out of my cocoon 

Keeping me from worldly company

Carrying my ears to a virgin valley.

Ah, another of your famous pairs. Lovely to see that they continue on WC. The seasons can be cruel, but they are also inspiring.

'Ah' back at you, Roland, for remembering it and reminding me of how warmly my experiment with the form was received by my jotty pals!
I've used the word 'cruel' in the intro in both ways. The winter nights, as I've painted them here, are actually cruel, for they arrest even smiles and dreams, but the summertime, as I've painted here, with its myriad charms, is cruel for tickling our senses.

The sounds of summer definitely prod us out of our cocoons without a doubt! The trouble is those winter cocoons are are way too comfy.... I do love winter nights and bits of smog and fog! ;o) Very good example blossom of our seasons and the effect they have. The feeling to want to be alone in virgin valleys and leave the busy world behind is often quite strong this time of year.

And I do enjoy crawling out of that cocoon into sunshine, but not as baking hot as we have had it in the last week....phew - so relieved it finally cooled. I hope you are chilled where you are Blossom?

I'm happy that the heat in the UK has finally been shown its way out! As for being chilled, yes, I am, but the heart, as you know, is a rather combustible thingy!! Sigh!
