Weed

Weed

A Story by DownTheDrain

“Oh f**k, I’m outta weed…”

Jon stared at his ceiling. He had smoked early in the morning when his parents went out to breakfast. His stash was supposed to last until Friday…It was Monday. He couldn’t get weed for four more days.

Four more days. They weren’t going to be a fun four days- that much he knew. Summer vacation can be fun. In fact: it usually is. But with nothing to do, what’s the point? With no herb: why bother? These were all seemingly valid questions Jon asked himself.

The last time he had been supplied was two weeks ago: An ounce and a half. That should have been plenty for the time being. He had charted out his times of usage.

Last Thursday was his graduation. He had to be baked for that. That was non-negotiable. Then he had his relatives over to celebrate…Yeah. He had planned for all that.

What he hadn’t planned for was his aunt staying an extra two days. He hadn’t planned for that at all. So he had to accommodate. He used up the rest of his stash and now he had none for the next four days.

It’s alright, though. He could go four days without smoking bud. Why not? Four days? That was nothing. He went the first six years of his life without it. What’s four more days? Nothing. Nothing is what it is. So there you go. He’d just have to stick it out for a few days. Problem solved…

No. Problem unsolved. He couldn’t go four days. Four days is an eternity. He hadn’t gone four days without pot in he-didn’t-know-how-long. That’s how much he smoked: He couldn’t even remember. But he did know it had been a while- A considerable while.

So it’s time for a new plan. But what? What to do?  He couldn’t think straight. He was tired. If he slept for a while, then the time wouldn’t seem so long. Yeah, sleep. That’s the way to go…Sleep…for…four days! Four days! Sleep for four days and you’d get more weed! It’s so simple! Sleeping had always been one of Jon’s favorite activities, and what better time to do it than now? There isn’t a better time.

But could he really sleep that long? Four days is a long time- but an even longer time to sleep through. He had slept long periods of time. Oh yes- very long. But four days? That was long. I mean, it was summer. He had to cherish his time before he went off to not go to college. So perhaps sleeping for four consecutive days wasn’t the best use of time.

Domikah. Garminick Domikah was Jon’s supplier. He was eastern European or something. He spoke in a way where Jon wasn’t really sure if he had any emotions at all. He was either utterly indecisive, or coldly calculating- Nobody knew. He went to high school with Jon, and they graduated in the same class. He was the one that was going to supply him on Thursday…Wait a minute. He could just call him up! Sure! Call him up, and ask for an advance on the goods! Garminick was a tad cold, but he wasn’t heartless. He would identify with Jon’s plight, meet up with him, and give him some more Mary Jane…Hold on…

7-6-9…8-4…3-2…

…………………...

“Heelo?”

“Domikah!” Jon shouted into the receiver.

“Yesh, this is I. Very busy. What you need?”

“I think you have a pretty good idea of what I need.”

“Narcotic?”

“Yes. I need narcotic.”

“Supply very low this time of year.”

“I- I know. And I know you said no more ‘til Friday. I know all that. But I was hoping…”

“….”

“I was hoping maybe I could get a little more in advance?”

“…”

“Hello?” Jon interjected.

“…Yesh. Still here.”

“So what do you say?”

“You had opportunity buy narcotic two weeks ago. I told you last chance ‘til this Freeday. Why you no listen?”

I've read a couple of things that you've "quit on". Don't quit!!! You have a natural voice for story telling, and your dialogue is strong. I love the way your characters' thoughts ramble enough to make it realistic without losing focus. Keep going!

I really liked how this story began. It got my attention right away, and I got sucked in; that's a good thing! I'm not really sure where you should go plotwise. . .
