ighteen years ago in the kingdom of Encantada, the king had an affair with the greatly respected sorceress of the DragonLands.  Although the queen failed time after time to produce an heir to the throne of Encantada, the sorceress, Carmenta, produced the only heir.  In order to disguise the affair from the queen, Carmenta cast a spell on the queen to make her believe that she gave birth to the child.  As the young princess grew, the queen began to suspect that something was amiss.  On the girl’s tenth birthday, the spell Carmenta had cast on the queen faded altogether. 

The queen became irate with the king, Cole.  She was already jealous of the relationship Cole had with Carmenta.  Carmenta had been made Ambassador of the DragonLands to the Kingdom of Encantada over ten years before the princess was conceived, and was constantly in the king’s presence.  The queen was the only person in the entire kingdom who was bold enough to stand up to the sorceress.  Carmenta was banished to the DragonLands and forbidden from stepping foot in Encantada for the remainder of the Family’s reign.  Though she was angered by the king’s deception, she kept the secret from the princess.  She thought it was in her best interest to keep it to herself.  She thought that if the people of the kingdom knew that she wasn’t the mother of the Crown Princess, then they would revolt against her.  Little did she know the people already knew the truth.
