Chapter 16 ~ Fright.

"You will pay for taking me from my family!" A hysterical voice screamed from behind her.

She ran, her heart pounding. But suddenly a hole appeared before her. She fell in. She groaned and stood looking around. All was black. She couldn't see a think. Then her father appeared. She stared. "Dad?"

He smiled at her. "Hey Sam."

"Dad..." She began.

But suddenly her father burst into flame. A man appeared beside him holding a lighter. Her father screamed in agony. "I told you, you would pay!" The man screamed. She saw him in her mind, she saw him dead, lying on the floor. Blood pooling into his shirt.

"STOP!" She screamed. But her voice didn't work, she tried to run to him but her feet wouldn't move. She tried to scream but all she could do was watch her father burn.

The man laughed maniacally. Her father continued to burn, continued to wriggle and scream in agony. "Now it's your turn." The man screeched.

She moved frantically but her body wouldn't do as she asked. The man came closer and set her aflame. She screamed but made no sound, she moved but there was no action. Her skin crawled in agony. Finally she screamed.

"Sam. It's alright." She heard Jed's voice. She woke and sat up suddenly. Her breath came in rapid gasps. She felt tears sting her eyes. She tried to orient herself.

She took a full breath and looked at Jed, who she realized was sitting beside her. She threw her arms around his neck and cried into his collar bone. She sobbed and sobbed. He put his arms around her and held her close. "Hey, it's alright. It was just a dream. I'm here. You're safe. Nobody can touch you. Calm down." His words soothed her but could not quiet her sobs.

"Jed. I saw my dad. I saw him burn." She cried.

"It's okay, I promise." Jed said running his fingers through her hair.

Sam cried for an hour straight. The image of her father burning haunted her.
