Chapter 8 ~ Bruce.A Chapter by 0_o Abbie
They all sat in the dining room for what seemed like hours. They weren't allowed to talk, it gave Sam a lot of time to think. She thought over what had happened with Jed. She almost laughed. At the time she had been grateful for the distraction of the suburban now she was grateful for the distraction of Jed.
The blonde man was guarding them now, along with the dark featured one. One of the others walked in and whispered something in the blonde man's ear. He nodded, then turned to the dark man and said. "Get the girl." There were 2 girls in the house, well a woman and a girl. Jessica and Sam. Jed's mom was out shopping. Sam looked up and so did Jessica, they looked at each other. The dark man came over to Sam and untied her with two words, "Let's go." Sam was lead out of the dining room and threw several of the hallways, this man wasn't as nice as the blonde man, in fact he gripped her arm a little too tight and walked a little too fast. She stumbled several times. "keep up." came the gruff response the second time. She was lead to Jerad's office. They stopped at the closed door and the man knocked. "Come in." Came the reply. The voice was slick and masculine. It pronounced it's words with the up most care. The man opened the door and shoved Sam in, closing it after her. She stared at the man before her, her chest rising and falling rapidly, she clenched her teeth so hard it made her jaw hurt. She examined the man before her, he looked as if he'd been taken right out of a 20s movie, the movie in which he played the gangster. He has light eyes that were almost blue but almost brown, he was clean shaven and his hair was slicked back. He was tall and thin. She assumed he looked younger than he was, she guessed him around 45. As she looked back up to his face she noticed he was sizing her up as well. "How old are you girl?" He asked, pulling a gun from somewhere and setting it on the desk. Sam gulped. Then told herself not to be intimidated by him and took on a defiant pose. "Why should I tell you?" She asked telling herself not to look at the gun. She'd seen guns thousands of times, her brothers liked to hunt. But her father had a firm rule that if a gun was in the house had to have the safety on. In truth, as many times as she'd seen a gun she'd never touched one or cared to learn how to use one. So now a gun on a desk made her want to hide. The man chuckled, "Have a seat dear." There was a chair on the opposite side of the desk, Sam sat. The man sighed, "You're just like your father." Sam sat up sharply, the hair on her neck bristled. "How do you know about my father?" The man laughed, his laugh made Sam want to cry. Who are you? she thought. "He never told you did he? How ironic. Now he's gone and you're faced with a man you have never heard of with no one to tell you. Stupid Jack, Stupid Jack. Where is your mother child?" Sam eyed him carefully, "My mother's dead." The man seemed surprised at this, "Don't lie to me child." "I'm telling you the truth. She died in a car wreck when i was a baby." Sam said with some venom. The man eyed her very closely. "How old are you?" Sam looked away. But her head whipped around when he stood. He's nearly as tall as Jed She thought. He picked up the gun and began fiddling with it. "I'm going to ask you one more time," he said coming around the desk. He twirled the chair so it faced him then he knelt in front of her, he put the gun on her lap. "How old are you?" Sam looked down at the gun, she hesitated then decided there wasn't any harm in telling him, she thought for a second about when she's decided there was no harm in shaking "Mr. Perkins'" hand. She looked once more at the gun then said, "I'm fifteen." "Now that wasn't so hard was it." He said moving his hand to her shoulder. "I'll even tell you something about me, I'm Bruce Wakely. Remember that name child. Your father didn't and look where it got him." She looked at him hate in her eyes. "What happened to my father?" He laughed and stood, walking around to the chair behind the desk. "What's your name child?" "Samantha." She said. She didn't understand what was going on, what did he want? His eyes widened slightly, "After your mother?" Sam nodded. "Now dear if you would please knock on that door three times." He said, again fiddling with the gun. Sam stood and walked to the door she'd come in and knocked three times. The door opened and as she was being led to the dining room, there was a knock on the door. The man stopped. © 2011 0_o Abbie |
