Mother and Son

Mother and Son

A Poem by Megan

She lies awake
Replaying her mistakes she's made
Empty arms filled with regret
His signs, she'd always neglect
She has realized it wasn't just a phase
Now his soul runs free in the haze
He knows she's not to blame
His demons washed him away like a hurricane
Her tears start to dry
She knows he's always nearby
She sees him soar in the sky
He may be gone, yet she still keeps him safe and warm
Her son is reborn.

How sad. As said perfectly in Lord of the Rings, "A parent should never outlive their child." I'm so sorry that your character did. Good writing. You made me feel for the woman, and most poems lack that.
