Falling Behind

Falling Behind

A Poem by Blindsighted
"

Don't you ever feel like the world is spinning way too fast to keep up?

"

Sometimes I feel like I've been left behind

Like the rest of the world is just

Spinning and spinning and spinning so fast

That I get dizzy enough from knowing and feeling and just being

I get flung off-course

And then someone tries to reach out a hand for me to hold,

To cling to,

To hang onto

But age and years and life are such slippery, slippery things

And I begin to slide away bit by bit

Until I'm left in the dark,

Biting the dust

When, suddenly, I realize that that's all I am;

Bitter grains of sand worn down by time,

Being blown away by the wind

Author's Note

Blindsighted
In honour of the small, depressed moments everyone goes through at some point in their life. I refuse to believe anyone has never felt even a bit of the emotions I portrayed in this poem.

I hope you enjoy~

Nice tone you've got here... I love those lines and how they were separated.
"Bitter grains of sand worn down by time,
Being blown away by the wind"
Wow... intense, fantastic job! :D

Blind--the last two verses are very important; and the balance of the piece has some interesting phrasing. If I were to see a 'negative' in this piece (and it's a bit of a reach), it's the inconsistency in metaphoric exchange. For example, if you look at your closing and then at the opening (spinning, spinning, dizzy, etc.), this solidifies the metaphor. However, 'slippery' and 'slide' offer an entirely different metaphor to track---usually not associated with wind or being tossed-about by wind--nothing cyclonic there! My personal struggle is that I love BOTH metaphoric definitions---I just don't want them in the same piece without a 'turn' to create the transition. If you know what I mean.....
