The Only One

The Only One

A Poem by Erika Jones

I'm the only one

that sees this family as nothing

but a destructive fire that's just waiting to

be blown to such intensity that

no one will ever be able to recover.

I'm the only one

that sees where the problems lie

and everyone points them at me

like I don't seem to notice

or they just don't care that

they are bringing down a person

who doesn't need the heat of the flame anymore

than she's already been dealt with.

I'm the only one

that even notices what the problems are

and try to show others what they are

but they throw a hand to the face because

they don't want to believe what the problems truly are

that they're stuck in their own little world that

everything will become perfect once again ...

when it never will be.

I'm the only one

that's blamed for everything that's happening

when I don't do anything to deserve being blamed.

I'm the only one

that wants everyone to open their eyes

and see the world that they once saw as perfect

to see their flaws as they are and deal with it

because they're not going to change

they'll be staying the same until they're ready to realize

that the problem isn't pointed to the one they're blaming ...

that the one they're blaming is nothing but innocent.
