"She's an Introvert, It's Her Medicine, She's not Normal...etc"A Poem by Angel CrinerGrowing up, I wasn't close with either of my parents. Today I'm closer to my mom and have severed the bond with my dad that was so strong for years. I'm treating him like I used to treat her... /:"Daddy's girls don't cry." That's what he used to say to me. He taught me how to have a little too much pride and I'm afraid that this contributes to my insanity. "You better not tell anyone, or else..." That's what she used to say to me. She showed me how to keep secrets hidden from hell. I've always lived in fear and anxiety. "You should be able to talk to us about anything." That's what they told me. When they could only see my suffering, on my discolored wrists and blood stained poetry. "You know you can trust us." That's what they told me. When the therapist said, "She has problems with trust." I say nothing because we've all been so ugly. "You hate me don't you?" Is what my mom used to ask me, because I used to treat her so cruel. I flinched a lot, so she stopped touching. "You hate me don't you?" Is what my dad asked me, because I've traded our long talks and, "I love you's..." For silence and loathing.
