Beneath All Tides

Beneath All Tides

A Poem by Joshua W. Harris
"

Just another spur of the moment write.

"
I revel in this sadness,
Each day it drags me down.
I attach the weights to concrete boots,
And wait to slowly drown.

Each day it pushes harder,
And each day I lend a hand.
I slip slowly into the dark,
As if it were all planned.

I was born with a condition,
A need to shun the light.
For in the darkness I was birthed,
And with it I shall fight.

For to go against this evil,
Is batting hands against a wall.
For I have looked into the deepest parts,
And know I am too small.

A tiny piece of stardust,
And a smidgen of a man.
I gather every piece of hope,
I've done all that I can.

But the ebb and flow continues,
The darkness always stays.
No tide is low enough to show,
I rest beneath it all my days.

Your meter and rhyme is wonderful. Your poem captures life's journey and struggles when it seems there is no way out of the sorry. The rhyme lends itself to a gentle cadence that makes the character sympathetic. I particularly loved this stanza:

A tiny piece of stardust,
And a smidgen of a man.
I gather every piece of hope,
I've done all that I can.

We arm ourselves with hope and wait for the light. Nice to read you.
