LoveA Poem by Nici
Love that eats the fire
that burns the world, where
everything’s upside down
and halfway to Crazy--
only sanity, for the weak.
Love that dances through water
and smoke, and soul-peeled smiles; the tragedy
that is, in the simplest terms, bliss—
until it unravels in a drowned heap
in a dry desert.
Love that breaks the air
into glittering dust, sweeping away
reason and logic, like a premeditated
murder only few could get away with—
even then, the evidence is stunning.
Love that sinks into the earth,
longing for a small space of calm,
weary and wary, wretched, and a bit more wicked
than most—
Love, that never stays still or satisfied for long,
Love, that never conforms to anything but itself:
it’s dangerous, and gorgeous, and unforgiving—
a beginning that ends
in the middle of nothing, re-imaginging the risks,
only to flaunt them, one part parasite
and another part willing host.
