Joy

Joy

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

Christmas just isn't the same without you
It use to be all about you
But now that you are gone
I can't seem to smile today

There was a time that
You were everything, you were all mine
I could do anything, the future was oh so bright
But now that you're out of reach, faded away
This is just another gray day

Holiday gatherings that lasted all night
The comfort of family and friends
Truces made and old trespasses forgot
The spirit you brought to it all meant a lot
But now things are so rushed and faded
Where did we go wrong, what did we loose
The only thing I can feel is the loss of you

Half smiles hoping for this to be the day it turns over
And the pages goes back to the memories I lack
Something different, something new
But all I can think to myself is "I wish you here again"
Feels like lost a reason, lost a true friend
Energy lost without making a move
Trying to find a reason to call this day a celebration
But without you it's an empty thought, a lost sensation

I wonder if I'll ever see
A day Christmas means something more to me
Where I can focus less on the loss and significance desecration
Find that spirit, that soul you brought to us all
Maybe it will take a fall, a rise of the heart
Someone to help bring back your spark
But for now, until that fateful day
Christmas will just be another day without you

Author's Note

Blake Q Hatfield
I wrote this to the tune of Wham's "Last Christmas." It's not exact, but some of the sentiment of it is there, but not in the same way, but I'd like to know what you think I was writing about. Feel free to say whatever is on your minds. Thanks in advance!

Very good write. The way it's written leaves it up to interpretation...the best aspect about poetry. My take on this the first time I read it through was missing a friend or family member that isn't around for whatever reason. Though the second time I read it, it screamed that the missing thing was the spirit of the season. Beat down by over commercialization, people have become numb and despondent of the once joy that came about this time of year. The mysticism has faded...people don't dream of sugar plums when credit cards are maxed out.

Great write.

Loved it! That is one of my favorite Christmas songs. It did make a great poem. My heart was reaching out to you. Glad to hear it's fiction.
