You Make Me Smile

You Make Me Smile

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

What would you do if I told you
You are something special
What would you do if I said
You are beyond beautiful inside and out
What would you do if I could muster courage
And tell you how you always make me smile

I'm not trying to inflate your ego
I don't want to seem insincere or too amorous
But there's something about you that brightens my day
When I get a chance to hear from you, to know you
From the extraordinary to the mundane
I look forward to hearing about your everyday

I sometimes wonder if I'm good enough, if I'm worthy
Could I be the one that shines for you
I'm not trying to rush time or get too far ahead
I just like to think that if today is good
Tomorrow could be something more
Darling you make me smile with a holiday glee

Some see me as a dreamer, a hopeless romantic
But when it comes to you I don't want to ever dream
I want things to be as real as can be
I will be an open book even in moments that I'm scared
Never hiding, always with my soul and heart exposed

What would you do if I told you
I look forward to each and every day
What would you do if I said
I think you're someone I always want to know
What if I could muster the courage to tell you
You always make me smile

This was very beautiful and heartfelt.. "slow and steady" wins the race and that's what I felt in this. It's also what I thought made it feel incredibly sincere and admirable. Lust is demanding while love is earned with trust, loyalty and devotion.. giving and taking throughout so many years. Amazing tribute to someone who makes you smile.. hope it works out!

Well if she isn't flattered by this piece, I'm not sure if anything else will work. Goodluck.

When I read this I get this visual of an old hand masterfully strumming a guitar while classically trying to woo his woman. Really well written and I hung on every stanza.

Infact...it reminds me of my husband and his ways...possibly why it touched me. Great piece!

Pure and innocent romance written to the height of perception,
it's a stunning poem in simplicity and emotion. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
