Last of the Summer WineA Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
I don't want to be
In that realm of settled and stale Slowing marching to that place Where the tired and gone feed the tree That isn't me, that will never be me I want to drink it all and leave reality behind I want to savor every sip of the last of the summer wine I want to feel freedom upon my soul My heartbeat, my passion, drunk off that summer wine You can't tell me you want to fade fast to autumn and winter Leaving the days of youth behind Settling into the routine of the ordinary and plain That normality just rattles my brain It ignites my soul, makes want to try To make something of every drop of this life To drink and take in the last of the summer wine And when I wake on that fateful day I'll still hope and pray that I won't go away For another chance to feel the thrill of life To raise my glass high one more time And toast to this great big world With the last of the summer wine © 2010 Blake Q HatfieldAuthor's Note
