Last of the Summer Wine

Last of the Summer Wine

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

I don't want to be
In that realm of settled and stale
Slowing marching to that place
Where the tired and gone feed the tree
That isn't me, that will never be me

I want to drink it all and leave reality behind
I want to savor every sip of the last of the summer wine
I want to feel freedom upon my soul
My heartbeat, my passion, drunk off that summer wine

You can't tell me you want to fade fast to autumn and winter
Leaving the days of youth behind
Settling into the routine of the ordinary and plain
That normality just rattles my brain
It ignites my soul, makes want to try
To make something of every drop of this life
To drink and take in the last of the summer wine

And when I wake on that fateful day
I'll still hope and pray that I won't go away
For another chance to feel the thrill of life
To raise my glass high one more time
And toast to this great big world
With the last of the summer wine

This was inspired more by the title and the synopsis of the show. I've actually never seen it, though I've read up on the idea behind the series.

I'm completely lost in it....in subtle stream of revelations...in deep woods of dreams where sunshine play with wide branches of ancient trees with all innocence of child...
In infinite form of exploration life loses both ends of ribbon...and I enjoy learning it through a simple tune that you've so passionately raised on your flute..
Best regards,
