The War Inside

The War Inside

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

You can't resurrect the dead
But you can revive the barely alive
The Spirit is too stubborn to quit
When life is still on the line
And even when it needs an army of Saints
The Soul will still try to beat the odds

Oh how my Soul, my Spirit lie
Here inside this shell praying not to die
My Will their General too afraid
Full of hubris, self pity and premature defeat
The orders to try still unsigned and unsent
As it wallows upon piles of lamented memories and chances gone by

What is to become of this weary body
The Soul and Spirit weakened by a sorry Will
Who only builds walls to hide
Can they find a way to revolt
Can they find a way to bring light to their dark skies
I pray I shall know before the end of my days
