The Little Things to Remember

The Little Things to Remember

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

I miss the way you use to smile
At the end of a perfect day
The times you always find a way
To tell me everything will be alright
But time has drifted us apart

I miss the way you use to eat the pickles from my plate
And shared your french-fries with me
The way you rested upon me
While we watched TV on a lazy weekend
The way you use to leap into my arms
It was a jumpstart to my heart every time

It’s those little things that made my day
Things that could wash my worries away
Tiny memories, tiny pleasantries
It was you that made a difference
And it’s that significance that I miss

I wonder, I hope at times
That we could gravitate to one another again
Sweet kisses upon the cheek and gentle smiles
To sit and reminisce for awhile
Pretending time never drifted us apart
A joyous leap into my arms
A jumpstart to the heart
