Ode to the Million Dollar Man

Ode to the Million Dollar Man

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Yes, the legend himself, Ted DiBiase

"

"Everyone got a price"
A phrase once proclaimed by Ted DiBiase
Truer words have never been spoken
Yet these words as true as they may be
Have always had the wrong connotation

You are a liar, you are blind if you deny it
From the most pious, to the most humble
There is a quantifiable price upon your very being
You say you can't be bought
Check again and you will find you have already been sold

What could it possibly be
DiBiase said "some people cost a little
Some people cost a lot...
And you will be bought!"

Do you value things in this life
What of the possibility of the great beyond
Have you good friends and family
Have you bonds strong and unbreakable
Do you desire freedom, life and love
If so you have been bought

A relationship is the price you pay for love
Knowledge is the price you pay for experience
Faith is the price of believing
Work is the price you pay to achieve
Risk is the price you pay for trying

Everybody, no matter who they are, has a price
But it's best to keep those prices good and true
Some take the darker road to being bought
Addiction to fulfillment, ignoring the void
They are the lost souls whose price is cheap and low

Ruin is the price of addiction
Ignorance is the price of hate
Regret is the price of fear
Madness is the price of suppression

Remember the words of the Million Dollar Man
Remember that the truth is far beyond the sinister
Some can be bought with all that is good
Some are bought with the false and fleeting
You must decide for what price you will eventually be bought

I've been thinking about the phase the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase use to say in his active days (and the theme song that incudes the similar saying.) "Everyone has a price" is one of the most accurate statements to describe the human existance. We all have those things/people we value more than anything. Some are good and we should be bought by them, some are not and we should avoid them. The point is that no one is above being bought, we all do in fact, have a price.

Everything has a price? A huge statement but a very true one. I love the line

'You say you can't be bought
Check again and you will find you have already been sold'

Very true if a little bleak. I think some of your lines could do with some tweaking, just to make them flow better but other than that this is a great poem and conveys the concept of everyone having a price very well.

Very depressingly true. I still think love can't be bought--however, the soul is always for sale. Thanks for entering my contest =)

"Do you desire freedom, life and love
If so you have been bought" Desiring is not enough. Working towards these goals is how we pay.

"Knowledge is the price you pay for experience" I think this one is backwards.

I loved this. It encouraged me to view relationships in a different way.
