Heart Pounding

Heart Pounding

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Basically about wanting to declare your love for a friend.

"

If you kiss her... you'll miss her
Friendship's a heartache, and then it's gone
Because you tried to make a play
You dropped the ball, and let it roll away

A friend is someone who'll always be there
Someone who doesn’t even care
How you look in the mirror
But on the walls of your soul

You decided to bet it all
Even though, if roll those dice-
                    Snake eyes
No hello's, see ya later, goodbye

I'll rewind your thoughts for you
You can go back to the pastures and fields
Find the picnic
And make it work

Life's a big risk
She the one you'll miss
If you want it bad enough
Go ahead, and take the kiss

Author's Note

Blake Q Hatfield
One of my favorite poems of all time is Richard Hugo's "The Freaks at Springum Road Hill." It' get worked into my poetry every now and then, well atleast the ideas do. Anytime I mention a picnic working, it's a direct homage to that peom. If you get a chance to read, please do. Might I sugest reading it to the tune of Nirvana's "unplugged" version of the Meat Puppets "Lake of Fire."
