Luka (I'm Sorry)

Luka (I'm Sorry)

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Wrote after I read a MySpace bulliten about child abuse.

"

Oh poor Luka
We here your cries
But we don't have permission
To interfere

Oh sad Luka
We know you haven't walked into a door
Falling down the stairs is not an excuse
But we cannot save you
'Cause we turn the other way

And I hear your screams from the second floor
I hear the beating, the sound of gore
And the yelling and crying are claws on a chalkboard
But we don't bother, we don't come your aid
We hope and pray that something will come to save you
We only shake our heads, 'cause we don't wanna face it

We know, we know
No door knob
No trip and fall
No boys will be boys
Could make that child squirm so
And cower in fear
But we write it all off just the same

My dearly departed Luka
I feel so ashamed
I should have come to your rescue
But I was so afraid
I was so blind
I thought it would all come to an end
But not in such a fatal and tragic way
Oh Luka, we are to blame

Every day I think of darling Luka
I think what should I have done
What could I have done to stop his pain
Besides turn away like a coward

And this day we must learn
And this day we must stand up
We can't let Luka die in vain
We can't let this happen again
We are the ones who must realize
We have permission and courage from above
We have a responsibility to those who suffer from the wicked
And we must know that if we turn away
We are always the ones to blame
I'm sorry Luka

Author's Note

Blake Q Hatfield
-If you read this before, you saw was from another poem. For some reason I didn't notice the mix up. My apologies.

-Wrote after I read a MySpace bulliten about child abuse and it got me thinking about the Suzanne Vega song "Luka." We should never allow anyone to abuse a child. To do nothing is to partake. To be a coward is to be the worse villian.
