Captain Regret

Captain Regret

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

regret

"

I am the one living with lament
A pain and a fall back memory
Sailing in the sea of woes
Aboard the SS Tomorrow
Call me by title, never by name
I have earned such a distinction

I am Captain Regret
I live like nothing is left
Aiming my compass at old ports
Often crashing on the rocks of new shores

My ship can be repaired only with patches
The scars can be hidden, but sometimes you can see
All the tolls of this voyage upon these grey seas
An unforgiving waterway with sullen currents
A tear is only a drop in the buck of this deep sea

I am Captain Regret
Never using a compass
My direction is far off and gone
Sailing aimlessly into the setting sun
Or perhaps towards the dying stars above

No crew to aid in this voyage
I yearn for a first mate to call my own
Someone to help me find a direction
Someone to lead me to sweeter seas
Towards lands that would bring my sailing to an end

I am Captain Regret
The lonely master of the SS Tomorrow
Sailing aimlessly this woeful sea
Telescope aim backwards, course set for the rocks
When will this sullen sailing end
I guess I will go on
Until something brings me to a better now and then
