Fool for a Day, Feel It for a Lifetime

Fool for a Day, Feel It for a Lifetime

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Even if you play the part of fool once, it can stick with you forever. It can teach a lesson, or cause you to keep being the fool. Sometimes it's best to step back and see what reality is and is not.

"

I can't help that I think you really kickin'
I can't help that I'm in love with you
And the feelings and things that along with
But what I can help is not falling your tricks
I will not be your blind fool
And you can't use me to build you up at my expense
I'm better than that

Fool for a day, is a lifetime of mistakes
Falling without opening your eyes
To see you're crashing to the ground
It won't be me this time
'Cause I deserve something more

Can you tell me that fairytale again
Whisper it so softly in my ear
With a tender and taunting voice
I could use a laugh these days
As I recover from the times I believed
And I thought you were in as deep as me

You fooled me for a day
And it will be with me for a lifetime
I can't believe the things I did
All the time and love I gave
I thought things would last longer than a moment
But I have lived that moment and learned
To never be the that person ever again

And when the end comes to your ways someday
I hope it's not too late for you to see
That you are only hurting yourself
When you play your wicked games for a cheap thrill
I hope you can find something real
Before you realize you're falling to the ground
And life crashes on you like your did me

Author's Note

Blake Q Hatfield
The first line inspired by the Whale song "Kickin,'" and the flow of the poem is like the Pursuit of Happiness song "Villa in Portugal" (mostly during the duet part)
