Beauty

Beauty

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Another old poem. This one I wrote after seeing a special on Discovery or TLC about parents who had their son undergo plastic surgery to hide his downs syndrome. I just feel that beauty is relative, not just something that is physical or in a magazine.

"

i hate this superficial world
i dosen't matter what you are outside
but they try to change you
they wanna rearrange you
tell you what's beautiful

well i don't know about you
but i think you can be beautiful
as long as you are beautiful inside
don't try to hide from them
for they are already ugly and gone

our children pay the price everyday
we try to hide them away
when we don't like the way they are
we put then down and count them out
we hurt them inside, killing any pride
we make them cry

poor michael
his parent's put him under the knife
his just wanted his 4 year old life
but they wanted a normal 4 year old looking boy
why change the mask when you can't change the boy

perfection is an opinion
it's definition is that of the lost
it's meaning belongs to the found
nothing is perfect unless you make it so
whatever you precieve is your truth
you are your reality

beauty is in the eye of the beholder
so behold yourself and you begin to see
others will realize your beauty
because it's the inner beauty coming outside
for all the supeficial ignorant to see

I guess everyone is running to the plastic surgeon these days. I think it's so sad parents would do this to a 4 year old that is already with downs syndrome and doesn't understand .....

...Something like this is just hideous! I think it is so good you wrote about this to alert the public. Your poem speaks volumes about your heart and feelings as well.
Your points are well expressed and so very true! It's what's inside that counts. The flaws we have make us stronger and who we are today.
