This Expression Has Expired

This Expression Has Expired

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Believe it or not, inspired by the computer error of the same name!

"

A sign reads
"We're sorry.
This expression has expired"
She no longer loves him
But can he tell

He was always an optimistic child
So ready to hope for the best in others
His blind faith has caused him trouble
And on this Dear John day
It has come to a head

She wanted something more
A piece of a dream he is not
Feeling he is only holding her at bay
With his holding back of emotions
How she longed for something more realistic

They were the perfect paper couple
But their numbers never made sense anywhere else
They took to life too differently
One hoped for the best
The other seized the moment
And neither could understand the other

Such a couple should be void of a start
But sometimes we see something that could be
We see a kit worthy of our time
Yet we never seem to understand the model when done

And as he reads the sign
As he feels it for the first time
He sees this as a truth he had ignored like many others
But it was a truth he could not take
He wanted her to try again, to hit the restart button

And she had been so reserved with her request
She had kept the revolution request to a murmur
Picking battles like a surgeon
While loosing the patient and her patience
With trying to revive a machine without success

And they met one last time
And they sat to talk of the how and why
And they wondered where they went wrong
Blame and regret from both flew
And soon she began to see the expression was never there
And soon he began to understand it has expired before it began

And they were ok, and they saw what they had not seen
They were never meant to be forever
They were only a momentary connection
Lost because the signal was dropped
And the expression expired long ago

I saw the computer error pop up on my screen at work and something sparked. This one took a few years (about 3 or 4) to complete.
