Better Sorry Than Safe

Better Sorry Than Safe

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Sometimes it's better to risk failure than to be afraid of trying

"

it’s better to be safe than sorry they say
with their knowledge of what they've seen
and the legends passed from present to past
built into the mental libraries of the land
causing the gentry to move at a hedonistic phobic pace

well when my world comes crashing down in the end
i hope to have love and friends
remembrance of joy after the pain
the rainbows and sunshine past the rain
and on that day i'm laid to rest
i'll hope you've seen me at my best
and as you reflect on my mistakes
you'll realize sorry is sometimes better than safe

i've made a fool of myself so many times
made a wrong turn and misspoken phrase
jumped the gun and lost the race
but if you could see the expression
of the joy from one of life's lessons
you'd know sorry isn't always forever

if you play it all safe
just think of all the avoided mistakes
you'd never fall, never fail
escaping the trap without being in it
never knowing the pain and sadness
while this may make you feel safe
how can you know the true feelin'
without the process of being

so to all in existence
i implore you to stop staring at life's lake
'cause it's better to be sorry than safe

This poem had meaning behind it. How does one know joy without experiencing sadness along the pathway of life. Sure your heart can't be broken if you've never loved, safe, but the joy of love and all its trappings is worth the heartaches along the way. Meaningful ending.

Wow, for some reason this really reminds me of Anne Sexton's "Starry Night". The same issue of living to the hilt is obvious, and your talent shows quite nicely.

That stanza struck me for some reason, and I love the way you say so much without being overly descriptive. It's the perfect amount of rationality and creativity.
Awesome write.
