Turn Away When I Shine

 

I don't know what it takes
To be the big star in your life
I don't what it takes
To be that bright shinning light
All I can do
Is just be me and hope I
Can shine enough for you

 

No matter what you do or say
You won't keep me away
No matter how hard you try
You can't me from trying to shine
Trying to be something more
If you don't like it turn away

 

I don't know why I sometimes care
I don't know why I want you listen, to understand
I guess I'm a sucker for a challenge
I'm the one who always needs to be liked
Except I never could stand a phony

So I still don't know why I try

And when I look out at the crowds
I wonder who's really there
And who's present for something else, to fill a void
Good or bad it's sometimes draining on me
I'm not above anyone

But when you don't learn from mishaps
Why the hell am I bothering to even shine for you

 

I guess I should learn to leave well enough alone
And build a fortress of solitude for my heart
But even the most protected heart can break
So I'll still try to shine for you, whatever it takes
And if want bask in the glow

And if you don't like it, that's fine
Just turn away when I shine
