Mending The Quilt

Mending The Quilt

A Poem by Blake Fodor

We are scarred

and alive

hoping for a clue

as to who we are.

We measure and cut

patch and sew.

Longing

binds together

pieces rent

by circumstance

and strain.

To find material

we look up old friends

who don’t remember us

or worse

whose memories clash

with ours.

Our shared experiences

are stitched together

bound by the psychic glue

of need.

We must repair to understand.

We assemble lives

from a blueprint

found somewhere

in a dream.

We leave a collage

behind for those

who loved us.

They use it

to stay the coldness

of our departure.
