Mending The Quilt

Mending The Quilt

A Poem by Blake Fodor

We are scarred

and alive

hoping for a clue

as to who we are.

We measure and cut

patch and sew.

Longing

binds together

pieces rent

by circumstance

and strain.

To find material

we look up old friends

who don’t remember us

or worse

whose memories clash

with ours.

Our shared experiences

are stitched together

bound by the psychic glue

of need.

We must repair to understand.

We assemble lives

from a blueprint

found somewhere

in a dream.

We leave a collage

behind for those

who loved us.

They use it

to stay the coldness

of our departure.

I couldn't agree more Blake, Facebook truly is the last of our humanity ebbing away.

A wonderful poem that describes our journey on the pathway of life and the collage of memory we leave behind.

The last three lines in particular, are quite lovely. I would like to think (though hopefully not for some time yet,) that I will leave such a legacy.

Beccy.

You penned a quilt indeed here Blake. Wonderfully done! I felt the warm intention and the comfort of your words did not disappoint the soul.

This is very beautifully and eloquently written. The way you stitch together a story with your words, using a common craft as means of a metaphor is brilliant and unique. Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.

My favorite verses are: "We assemble lives / from a blueprint / found somewhere / in a dream." A brilliant depiction of the collective unconscious.

I really like the way you stitched together these images. An effective metaphor throughout.

This was wonderful! So full of meaning and line after line of brilliance.

Our shared experiences

are stitched together

bound by the psychic glue

of need.

We must repair to understand.

This is so true, we often patch up our memories so that they no longer conflict with others, even if it hurts us to do so. Great work!
