I, Money, Refuse The Crown

I, Money, Refuse The Crown

A Poem by BlackPrince
"

money don't make us; we make money

"

I, money, refuse the crown that

between rich and poor builds a gap,

a prize plunging Man's children deep

in guns and drugs crime on the street.

Man's selfish mind laid a death-trap,

though he names me as king of his act

of cold greed besieging his heart.

I shed tears, and in truth I speak:

I, Money, refuse the crown

that views Man's life less than a rat,

a sin, a thought at which I spat;

for man's life is sacred, not cheap.

In bloodshed Man fans hell-fire's heat,

though I'm used as excuse; in fact

I, Money, refuse the crown!

it took me along time to realize that money has no power.. it is a piece of paper with funny pictures on it.. and the color really isn't very good.. you can paper your walls with it but it has no insulation quality.. it is really only good if one uses it for the benefit of those he loves.. I suppose if it wasn't so easy for me to get it and to get more when I think I need it I would feel differently but it lost it's power to rule me a long time ago.. unless I become complacent and let it sing a siren's song.. and then I am given another lesson in how little value it really has.. I like your style.. "for man's life is sacred, not cheap." a power full truth.. but then.. truth is powerful.. is it not..

Now we're talking! Insight. Rich and poor alike share the bounty of greed and covetousness.
Best of yours I've read so far. The last couple of lines, though, felt like the rhythm had been broken.
I tend to speak poetry out loud, and had I been been backed by a beat, I'd have missed a step.

Such a powerful message is found in your poem, and I can't help but think. Money nearly rules the world and yet, here you are, refusing power. Your words spread knowledge, and I admire your sense of conviction. The lines I read behold a completely different aspect of the world, and for that, I thank you. Your vocabulary releases an exquisite flow, and a magnificent passion. Magnificent work!
