A Life That is MineA Poem by BlaiseIt's just a poem about our current society that I really relate too. EnjoyI’ve worn a mask, as so many do Put it on my face acting proud and glad But really feeling sad and alone You see the mask expresses what you desire And hides what is true Which is You You see, a face that is original is rare It is hard to find behind glass and lights it’s even more difficult to see in all the spotlights, but when it’s found it’s a beautiful sight. For what is true brings out the real light An expression that is special and unique isn’t manufactured It is something that comes from within It is something that can not be painted or recreated For that expression is true Because it came from within you Walls are built up inside They’re created to ensnare our mind To trap what is original, special, unique And disguise it as insignificant, generic, frightening, ugly The saddest part is, We believe it. The lies that are fed into our minds From the glass and lights and people placed in spotlights! We consume the words they spit from their mouths Devour the things they claim will make you whole and replace what they stole! But we take it anyway, Breath it in and obey what they say We accept and ignore what they have stolen from us Give to them with nothing in return, Except for entertainment that will last for 1 to 2 years Face it. We say were unique, individual, but really we all follow the same damn rule Don’t speak up unless you know you can win Usually that is when you have people behind you Supporting you Embracing you. Telling you, “You've got this” Me, All I got is a family and an old laptop. I’ve got my notebooks but they have seemed to turned on me People I called close friend have too. While other adults just turn their heads. Trust me, I know that’s happened to you You see, that’s where those walls come in They hide the so called, imperfections an ugliness They tend to keep them deep within So I’ve got news for you. I’m just as ugly, just as imperfect inside as you believe you are I’ve put on masks to please my friends Built up walls to protect me, and the world from what I saw as ugly I’ve done many things I regret, Most aren't the same as you, But I do know one thing, and that is you are not alone. This topic isn’t one people like to talk about It’s always been in the back of our minds No one has had the guts to say it So here I go, I’m spilling mine. I don’t want to be trapped in a world full of masks, glass and lights I want a life I can call mine, and not some person who I created An idol I aspire to be, when I was created to be just me This life I want is unplanned, unpredictable Filled with dark roads, mountains and valleys Roads that I will have to choose with no guide At least I can call it mine! I’m unsure of where I will go, who I will meet and what lies ahead, But I do know that I’m original, special, unique, wanted and seen As are you… If only you’d believe © 2018 BlaiseAuthor's Note
