Where I'm From

Where I'm From

A Poem by BBlade
"

A simple assignment saturated in emotion.

"
            I’m from my father’s name

                        Fear of being a clone

                                    Paranoid and monotone

            I’m from corndogs every day

                        An ongoing struggle born, wait

                                    A mental and physical weight

            I’m from an oblivious childhood

Anger shot up like a burning bush

Corrupt beliefs and morals made me shush

                                    The divorce

                   Rapture to a know-nothing boy

                           Ripping down a page

                                      I was torn

            I’m from apartment buildings

                        One boyfriend established dictatorship

Another liberated, freed, and opened me

I’m from adapting to respect everyone

                        From a mischievous, chaotic youth…

To “Yes sir”, “May I?” and “thank you”

            I’m from imagination

Stories of sword swingers and serene singers and silly sighs

From songs of untold angst, folded inward, doubling into hate

                                    My childhood

A movie clip that ran 17 years

                            A sequel was expected

                                      Torn again

            I’m from guitars and novels

                        Of many fantasies and ballads

Like Jay Leno’s cars and witticisms

I’m from black humor and Goth

A man of Vonnegut and Shelley

And to Rock, a late pupil of late Rhoads and Slash

            I’m from insecurity and suspicion

Like this world, I learned adaptation

I grew a second skin to ensure protection

                                            My life

A drama, a mystery, and fantasy

                        Perhaps, someday, an inspiration

                                To my next generation

I’m from a book I wrote; it wants to be read

A woman, Jamie Dee, tore into it and pushed me

To become the Vonnegut/Shelley I inspire to be

I’m from “love and respect all”,

Two parents, brave, bold, and belligerent, taught me that

I always keep them in mind

I’m from a man, Fisher, who helps discreetly,

                        When no one else can

                                    A marvelous director and friend

I’m from a girl who walks her own way

Not a stereotype; secrets are safe with her

A love I can't describe, despite my zeal

I’m from trying to understand her

                        Like studying a picturesque beauty

So I can be there, and not be cheesy

I’m from bus rides cuddled together

                        Pencil-short afternoons watching Netflix

From writing stories and songs together

                                    As the credits reel

I begin to cry and begin to try

I try to see my future

                        And appreciate where I’m from

About
I'm a young author. Not much more to say than that. Well, I guess I could mention my book. You know, it's a young adult, fantasy adventure. I spent nearly all of high school finalizing it, and, no, it.. more..
