The dichotomy of Man - his compassion and his avarice. We are subconsciously conditioned to be greedy and jealous, for that's evolution at work. The intrinsic human qualities such as love and charity are just that; human. Artificial. We attempt to transcend evolution and stay above it in order to, as has been noted countless times before, "separate us from the animals". We cannot escape what we are and where we came from, though. At the end of the day, homo sapiens still fall into one of the five kingdoms of life - the animal kingdom.
I do not see life this way, so I will just say you have put deep thought into this. I would like to read something more up beat from you so I can see how I like a different style from you. Valentine

There is both Good and Evil occupying an important place in our world. I believe this because I am a Realist and I have experienced it myself. I have done these some of these things and have seen everyone I know partake of sin in one way or another. We do not just live in a world of joy, compassion, hope, kindness, warmth, sympathy and goodwill to all.
But the core concept is more one of balance, that Good and Evil exist side by side. To disagree with me is, honestly, extremely naive. The world can be a great place and a horrible place at the same time. This is an eternal truth that has been true since the rise of Humanity.
If you are too much of a religious person then I suggest you look for poetry elsewhere. I admire those with faith but at the same time I often pity them. My mother is extremely religious in her Christian beliefs and it really bothers me sometimes.
Sorry if I'm coming off as rude or insulting as I don't want you to think that I hate religion or anything, this is just who I am and I am Agnostic. I believe the world is a rather dark place. If you read my About Me section on my profile page you would know I tend to write mostly in dark themes and concepts. I apologize for rambling but sometimes I can't help it. I also apologize if I have offended you in any way.

This sums up the human condition and I absolutely love the closing line. Good work.

Thanks. I kind of love the last verse, but I wanted the very last line to be a bit longer.

For "the enemy grows within" us all. Eh, I don't really like the change myself, but it kinda popped in my head when reading your comment.
