Impermanence of the Soul

Impermanence of the Soul

A Poem by Lovecraft
"

Musings on the concept of the Soul.

"
An Impermanent Soul is my cross to bear,
A fear that I can never truly comprehend,
For I do not understand what a Soul is or is not,
And whether I am cursed or not, so be it.

Do I believe in the existence of Souls?

I just don't know for sure,
But I'd like to believe in it,
Though how could I?

Belief is what I lack most of all,
A belief that nothing is quite
Like it seems.

Author's Note

Lovecraft
A meditation on whether the Soul is real or not. This is a first draft. I need to add more. Not sure if this is good enough yet.

Very provocative thought ! Loved it's simplicity and depth. I think the poem is complete, there was a question and an answer! great piece.

Thank you Hebes. :)
We are presented with a supposed truth early on in our lives, this concept of the soul. Our spiritual fingerprint; an unobservable but undeniable part of ourselves, whether metaphorical or literal. And if literal - if it really is a part of ourselves - how are we to actually know? We cannot touch one - not with our hands. We cannot see such an abstract thing either, only the effects of its existence. But does it exist in the first place? Well we can't touch it...
... a cyclical, spiraling path of logic you have created here! The question of philosophers and scholars throughout every generation of thinkers. Faith is inherently a learned optimism brought about by experience, and thus individually unique. To your comment, "not sure if this is good enough yet", 'tis certainly good enough yet.

It's hard to believe in things you can't see. Good one.

: )
It makes one question oneself. Am I without a soul? I like where it's going.....
