A Broken Heart

A Broken Heart

A Poem by Lovecraft
"

A man loses what's most precious to him.

"
Emptiness consumed my very soul
Watching her lithe form depart.
I knew it wasn't her fault,
Yet I felt a desire to scream at her.

But my heart had been permanently shattered
And I could never pick up the pieces.
I wept at the thought of our last conversation.
We had been so very cruel to one another.

Emotions collided within me in waves,
Awaiting their freedom to be heard.
I had to refuse their requests,
Too much pain and sorrow...

A tragedy had destroyed us and our love,
And seeing me was too much for her.
Still I loved her always.

We still love our son,
Wherever he may be.

But I do not believe in Heaven nor Hell,
I knew the horrible truth.
The immutable fact that we would never,
ever see his beautiful smile again...

I can think of no remedy or balm
That could bring us back together,
As a family.

Only the hope she finds happiness someday and somewhere.

There is naught to do,
But simply grieve alone.

I will always love you, my Claire,
No matter what has befallen us.

Goodbye

I just want to say, I'm not actually very good at reviewing. But I'm going to give it a go.

I like it. It's sad but I like it that way. My favourite part is this:
A tragedy had destroyed us and our love,
And seeing me was too much for her.
Still I loved her always.

Don't ask me why that is my favourite because I don't know. It just stood out to me. I love the way it's written. You can actually feel the emotions he going through. Good Job!!!

Small question. Is the picture Dean from Supernatural?

Oh wow how heartbreaking and tragic. I cant even imagine what would become of my own husband if we were to lose either of our children. This piece is so very sad. You captured the pain wonderfully. Nicely done!

Thanks, I'm just fairly intuitive in these things, I guess. :D
You write about emotion very clearly and bluntly. Even so, I feel them clearly which is a powerful combination.

I like that this poem tells a story and that we get the details of it as we go along. The writer clearly is struggling with their emotions and is trying to deal with them even as they tell the story. It almost feels like little burst of sorrow and information, as if dwelling on either one too long would be too much but alternating between them he is able to finally choke out this expression of remorse and sadness.

Lovely work. I very much enjoyed it.

Honest, true and sad poetry for love.
"I will always love you, Claire,
No matter what befalls us."
I liked the above lines. You create a place of love that left and left people with regret and memory. Thank you Lovecraft for sharing the excellent poetry.

This is beautiful, but so very sad. I agree with M.L. Franchello, the emotions are so big, but so feeling and relatable in a way to someone in one way or another. I'm sorry about the passing of your brother you had mentioned in a prior comment. Your work is insightful and powerful.

This is very well-written indeed.. While you may not have felt exactly what you wrote, still you pieced it up nicely, weaving a an effect of pain the readers can only too well relate to..
Writing without feeling is an art too in my opinion which you are brimming with.. Nicely penned!

Wow.... This one is good. The emotions are so big. I don't know why you doubt yourself here, silly really... In my opinion one of the best of yours I have yet read Lovecraft... If Claire is real send this to her... I'm nosy but yeah... I'm also an eternal optimist, funny considering the darkness of a lot of my work. But I always see the light at the end... and maybe she will too Lovecraft... The loss of sons... Aye. All I will say about that... Aye..

Anyway, great work... Really..
