MonsterA Story by Amberlynn Kaye
Nightmares. I would always have them. Always see them as they truly are. See a land fading to dust and ruble. A realm of death. Not a sound. Not even the sound of branches snapping with the force of the wind or its howl to follow. I stare ahead of me....into the path in which I've caused. Where bodies lay unmoving and bloodied.
My eyes narrow. My sight goes to my hand. Where blood coats it in a red shimmer. Not my own but that of my enemies. No thoughts of "What have I done?" Only the calm expression of someone insane. I squeeze my eyes shut. Hearing the screams of unfortunate souls that died crossing my blade. A monster. Is that the right saying? A monster doesn't feel. A monster only CRAVES. A kind of hunger that dives deep and never feels full enough. A smile creeps on my face. A monster, is the one who can remain uncaring even in the most terrible of bloodshed. When the cries of their prey don't even register as they silence them forever. No, a monster is what is standing there without any mercy for the weak. I turn around and walk away. Leaving the dead to become part of the earth. The smile never leaves me. This monster is something far worse. © 2015 Amberlynn KayeReviews
