Kane was right that I healed a lot quicker than I normally should have. I woke up the next morning and every single wound I had either fully developed a scab or already had a scar over it. Also, my right leg and arm was almost completely fine and felt as if nothing happened to it the night before. The swelling had completely gone down and my knee was aligned just how it was before I went out that night. I felt great. Other than the itching from all the damn scars and scabs, I was fine. “It’s a very interesting phenomenon. We should study why and how your body is able to repair itself so rapidly and how much your able to take. Think of all the experiments we could try and the benefits that would come from them, the cures we could make, the people we could save,” he said this while probing around my arms and legs with his fingers. I swatted his hands away. “I’m not letting you or anyone else dissect me for the fun of science, no matter what the pros are. I don’t know how my body was able to heal like that and I don’t know that if I was to get injured like that again, I would be able to do the same thing twice. It’s better to not risk it,” I walked over to my drawer and began looking through my clothes and uniforms, trying to decided on what I wanted to wear for school. I’ve been going to Saint Cecilia’s for about 10 years now with Kane and about 2 years ago Madame Roux started making Avy and Inesa take the bus with us to school. She said, “Two strong boys should be able to protect two small girls on their way to the academy.” I believe her lazy a*s just wanted to take another thing off of her short, SHORT, to-do list. I sighed looking through the clothes I had in my drawers. Most of my outfits were either old or I didn’t wear them anymore which meant I had nothing to go to school in. Wearing my school uniform by itself was asking someone to make fun of me and I just barely made it through 9th grade without any s**t. 10th grade students are a little more full of theirselves and won’t think twice about laughing at you or f*****g with you, regardless of the consequences to them. I glanced over at Kane quickly to see what he decided on wearing and as usual, he was wearing his uniform slacks, a black collared shirt with a black tie, and one of his scholar’s vest the school gave him for always being at the top of his class. Freakin’ Kane, everything’s always so easy for him including something as complicated as finding a school outfit. I think he looks kind of like a nerd, but nobody bothers him and he’s still as popular as ever. He even has chicks throw themselves at him, but he always turns them down. An asian girl whose in a science club with him, Kim’s her name I think, one day confessed herself to him right after Mr. Durand’s math class. (“You!”, she screamed at him. “You think your so perfect! Always helping people with their problems, tutoring any student from any grade, taking on any and every impossible task an adult gives you and yet you never fade one bit,” she began to walk up to him as all of our classmates stared at her while she took something out of her bag. She finally yanked out a piece of paper and stopped a foot away from him. “See!,” she said holding the paper in front of his face. “Because of you! Because of you. Because of-f-,” and she began to cry. “Because of you, I was able to not only pass the biology and anatomy section in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s admissions test, I got a 94 percent on it! An enrollment recruiter called my dad’s house yesterday and told him that I was one of the only students who was ever able to get that high of a grade on that sector of the test and they wanted to offer me a full payed scholarship into their neurologist program that I wanted to attend!,” she screamed as she hugged Kane who looked more shocked then happy from the reaction she gave him. He smiled at her, “I told you that you would be more than fine my love. You worked harder than anyone I’ve ever seen including myself,” he hugged her back. “No, I wouldn’t have gotten as far as I did without your help. What I learned from you was something I know I wouldn’t be able to get at any university. That’s why,” she said and she began to reach in her bag again pulling out another packet of forms. ( I smirked in the background looking at Kane’s expression as she pulled out the packet. We both knew what she was going to ask him next and I knew the answer he was going to give to her.) She held the packet up to his face, “That’s why I asked the staff to give another student whose far more better than me the chance to earn a scholarship too. I want you to enroll with me.” She continued on looking down at his stomach, “Actually, Kane I need you to enroll with me. The only time I’m every able to succeed or go as far as I do is after I think about you. At first, it was because I was angry at you. That you just came in here one day and stole my rank from me. Then, it was for my love of competing with you, trying my hardest to get close to or best your scores. And recently, I think it’s been just for the fact that I know you’ll be there, always a little ahead of me but leading the way as I follow behind,” then she started crying again. “Will you continue leading my way? I know I’ll always be right as long as I’m right behind you.” I could only imagine how uneasy and uncomfortable Kane felt as he looked at the crying girl, then up at the ceiling, and then down at me leaning against one the hallway lockers about 10 feet away from everyone else. He closed his eyes and sighed, then smiled again at Kim, “You strived harder then anyone I know. Always making us wish we had half of the motivation you carry and if we did, maybe the world would’ve been able to advance more positively then the many degrees of negativity it produced. Your able to push through any undesired outcome, always coming out stronger with more ambition than when you started. I want you to know that I’m not the reason you succeeded my love, it was because of you and your way of accomplishing the unthinkable that got you as far as you did. I was just intellectual guidance.” He sighed again and began to stare into her eyes, “I’m flattered, truly, but I’m sorry. I can’t accept your offer. Do this journey without me, you’ll be better off, I promise,” he said as calmly as does any other time he speaks. Kim’s eyes began to tear up, shaking the enrollment papers as she sobbed a response to him, “Y-you don’t want to give it a-a couple of days t-to think about it. Maria Shauness at admissions said she would give you a w-week to turn in your packet and t-take the test,” forcing these words out as clearly as she could without completely being in tears. The poor girl’s heart was braking and I guess her let down was starting to make other students uncomfortable because a lot of people started to walk to their next class. Few people stayed to either boo at Kane or laugh at Kim for getting rejected, but majority of the crowd was gone after 30 seconds. Mr. Durand eventually came outside yelling at everyone to get to class and away from his door. Kim placed the enrollment packet again over the school’s logo on Kane’s vest after everybody left. “Would you think about it? Please?” He told her again nonchalantly, “I don’t want you to have to wait the entire week anticipating a different answer even though it’s going to be the same. Sorry, I promise you that I thought my decision over long and hard,” she turned away from him and quickly cried herself to the girl’s restroom, dropping the packet and her test results on the floor. Kane stared at her leave, then began to kneel down. I walked over and helped him as he began picking up the paperwork off the floor. I stared at him too as I began to help pick up the papers. He looked the same. Unfazed as if he was just walking by and saw some random kid drop something on the floor and he decided to pick it up for them. He thanked me as I handed him the papers then gathered them up into one neat stack. “Dude, you didn’t know she wanted you a while ago? Any chick who glares at you that hard in class and tries to be your best friend afterwards totally wants something out of you, and I don’t just mean help with a test,” I said pointing down at my crotch and laughing out loud. “You should’ve of just pretended to like her and let her off when it was time for her to move to the east coast. She can’t yell at you on a plane four thousand miles away.” He glared at me, then told me, “Shut up. It’s not right to play with someone feelings. It’s best to end it quickly if you don’t plan on engaging with the other person, saves both of your time and saves you from being an a*s,” telling me this as if he was teaching me a lesson. “Well someone’s moody. I’ll just ignore you next time you want to dump one of your fans,” I began to walk toward the double doorway exit down the hallway that lead to the street outside. Right after I started walking, Mr.Durand came outside his classroom again and started yelling at me, “I told you to go to class Michaell, not home! Dr. Dubois’s class is upstairs.” Ignoring him, I continued walking. He yelled again, “Or will it just be easier if I give Lady Patricia Mae Roux a call. I can always tell her you’ve been sleeping in class and ditching again. That I might need her to come to school with you and keep an eye on you, just so she can verify that I’m telling the truth. You know how she gets when someone interrupts her schedule.” I stopped right before I placed my hand on the door and continued to listen to what he was saying. “We can go on about how your in danger of falling because you never turn in your work. I can even get your other teachers involved in the conversation as well. We can all talk about how you might need to take some extra classes during winter break, maybe even summer.” I groaned loudly, slowly turned around, and glared at the man. He smiled as I began to walk toward Dr. Dubois classroom. “See, smart boy. Deep down you always know the right answer. I guess that’s how your able to ace all of my test even though you do none of my assignments,” and he walked back inside of his classroom. Kane glanced at me then headed toward the library with Kim’s stack of papers. After he left I went to class.) I snapped back to reality as I continued to look for my clothes, but periodically glanced over at Kane’s vest. Come to think of it, the red vest he’s wearing now, the one he usually wears to school, is the same one from when he dumped Kim. After that incident he started wearing that vest a lot more, almost everyday actually. I guess breaking up with her truly affected him, but he would never admit it though. I sighed. “I need new clothes,” I said out loud in our room.
“Are you girls ready yet!!” Avy came barging inside our room as we were getting dressed. Inesa was right behind her, fully dressed, holding her’s and Avy’s backpacks. “I couldn’t figure out what to wear,” I said honestly still deciding on which shirt I should wear out of the 3 options I had laying on my bed. “I was ironing my pants and doing my hair,” Kane said as he brushed down the sides of his hair and patting the jelled curls on top of his head making sure they were still nice. “Girls. Just like I said. No, you guys are an insult to women everywhere and I’m mad that I compared you to us. Women are classy and we would never let clothes and hair keep us from making an appointment. How are all of us suppose to be able to make it to school by bus for 8:30 and it’s 8:15 right now. You guys do know we have to catch two different buses to get to school,” she glared at us as we continued to get ready. “Beauty takes time sweetheart,” Kane said smiling at his hair. “You don’t want to go out looking stupid,” I said looking at my clothes, then staring at her. She looked down at her outfit, then back up at me angrily, “What?! Is there something f****n’ wrong with my outfit, I’m wearing the uniform.” I continued to stare, then smiled. She groaned as she balled her fist. I swore that she would have socked me if I said anything else, but instead she turned toward the door and headed down stairs. Yelling loud enough so everyone can hear, she screamed, “ Mama Mae!! Michaell and Kane are still not ready and their gonna make me late for school! I’m gonna ruin my attendance record and I won’t be able to get into the college I want! Can you take me and Nes to school please!” Immediately after that we heard, “MICHAELL!! KANE!! IF Y’ALL LITTLE ASSES DON’T COME DOWN RIGHT NOW, I’M GONNA COME UP THERE AND DRAG YOU DOWN TO THAT DAMN SCHOOL, AND IF ANYONE OF Y’ALL ARE LATE, SEE WHAT F****N HAPPENS TOMORROW!!”, she yelled from the top of the stairs. I looked at Kane and grinned. He sighed and grabbed his backpack, heading over to Inesa. “Go on downstairs sweetheart, I don’t want you to get in trouble too,” he said as he motioned her down the hall. He looked back at me, “Come on Michelle, you got to pick a shirt now or we might have to get dragged down,” he said smiling. I moaned staring at my options, I didn’t want to wear any of them. Sighing, I picked up a grey multi-shaded, three down bottom t-shirt and headed out of our room. Instead of going down stairs, I headed toward the supply closet. “Don’t tell me your changing your mind about going to school today again?” Kane rolled his eyes at me and headed for the stairs. “Sssshh. Don’t tell anyone, just tell Madame Roux I’m still upstairs. I got something I want to do,” as I headed toward the window. “And whats going to happen when she continues to call your name and no one answers,” he said putting on his backpack. “She’s gonna keep calling,” I laughed as I headed out of the emergency exit window.
I ran down flight after flight of ladders that made up the emergency exit. When I was at the 10th floor, I could hear Madame Roux screaming out my name most likely at the top of her lungs. “I want to know how long it’s gonna take her to realize I left,” I said aloud to myself. Reaching the ground from the ladder exit was easy ever since Kane destroyed the gate that contained it and since it was the morning, the back delivery gate was wide open. City life around our apartment was always hectic when the sun’s out. Well it’s hectic at night too (I live in freakin’ busy a*s Los Angeles), but with the constant traffic, visits from tourists, and everyone moving out here wanting to be a star, it’s kind of hard to get from place to place fairly quickly, or easily. Five seconds after I was out of the gate, I already saw an accident at the intersection up the street from our apartment. It was caused by somebody trying to run a busy light, but couldn’t make it fast enough. Now the entire street is even more crowded with people yelling because of traffic, angry cars honking, and people wanting to be nosy. The entrance to the subway is just right across the street, but now I’m gonna have to barge through a mob of angry confused idiots to get there. As I started to move through them, I saw a guy with a hoodie walking really fast past the people ahead of me with something really weird coming from out of his pants; a long, grayish white hairy striped tail. I didn’t know if I was seeing things. I rubbed my eyes to double check, but saw that I was right and it was definitely a tail coming from out of his pants. Another weird thing was that his tail started moving around, grabbing wallets, cards, and money from people that passed by him. All of the items that his tail stole flowed back up into the mans jacket. “The f**k?!” Was I going crazy or was that really happening? I started walking toward him trying to catch up, but a couple of steps into my pursuit I crashed into some old man and I was knocked to the floor. “Hey boy, watch where you going! You could have knocked me to the floor and I would’ve broke my new hip. That’s why you’re supposed to be in school! Where’s your parents? I have half a mind to discipline you and them for not takein’ better care of-.” I pulled myself up from the ground, furious at the old man for pushing me down and messing up my chance to catch up with the hoodie guy, so I yelled at him. “The hell is your problem!? YOU knocked me down, you blind a*s old man! I would f**k you up if I didn’t think I would kill your a*s! Watch where your f****n’ going!” He looked at in shock and surprised, probably confused that I would talk back to him like that. He then began to yell at me even louder, “WHAT DID YOUR LITTLE A*S SAY TO ME! Where’s your damn mother and father!? Never in my life! Yo’ little a*s, I can’t, you! I should beat yo’ a*s with my cane! I can’t believe, if I had, I would-,” I cut him off again as he stuttered. I ignored him as I looked around for the hoodie guy with the tail, but couldn’t find him. “F**k! He f****n’ got away! Your blind as didn’t see him stealing all that s**t with his f*****g tail?! Why the f**k didn’t you crash into him instead? He was just over there and his tail was so high in the sky you couldn’t have missed-,” I continued looking around, but couldn’t find any trace of him or his long grey tail. Next I looked at all the people he stole from. No one seemed to notice that their things were missing. Actually, everyone seemed fine, as if nothing happened at all, even the people who were gathered around while me and the man were arguing started ignoring us as well, as if we weren’t even there. I grabbed my head wincing from a sudden sharp pain I felt in the back of my left eye. I yelled out loud as it got worse. It felt like someone was digging through my eye trying to get to my brain with a screw driver. “Aye, boy? Are you ok? I know you fell pretty hard and we started bickering and everything, then afterwards you did become really angry over something. Did you need me to call someone, a parent, 911 maybe? I never heard someone get up from a fall and start ranting on about men with tails that stole and you grabbed your head afterwards, this is the first time I heard of that in my 73 years of life.” He walked over to me and touched my back, as he did so I rose my head up and glared at him with my right eye, still grabbing the left side of my head. All of a sudden he jumped back and stumbled to the floor. I looked at him as he pointed his cane at me. “You have a devil eye! The same one that’s worn be the demons in the book of Jacob. You must be some sort of devil worshiper, screaming about a guy with a tail, and then changing your eyes to fit some sort of monster.” My head was pounding as I opened both my eyes to glare at the crazy man, but everything was too bright for me and my vision began zooming in and out at the same time, forcing me to shut both of my eyes and shake my head profusely as I tried to fix my vision. I walked toward the old man, continuing to grab my head, trying to shake out the pain. “No, back! I’m a good Christian and always have been. There’s no reason for you to take me demon. So what if I missed church sometimes and maybe I haven’t been as nice as I could be, but show me who has! I’ve been good. Not me demon! Not me-.” I stopped a little bit in front of him and began to yell, trying to stop the old man from creating and even bigger crowd then we already had. “SHUT UP!! Stop f*****g shouting out nonsense! STOP ALREADY!! Your giving me an even bigger headache! You’re the one who sounds like a freakin’ demon! Enough already!” I grabbed my head has hard as I could drawing blood from my scalp and yelled out as much of the pain as I could, then took a really long, deep breath and let it out. I followed that by taking a lot of smaller shorter breaths, then began to breathe normally as I let up my grip on my face. Placing my arms to my sides, I looked up at the sky and slowly opened my eyes. They blurred from a dark purple color, full of shadowy figures and colors, then faded into a pinkish hue, and finally a normal sky blue. I fluttered my eyes for a couple of seconds to see if they were finally back to normal, then focused on my head for a second feeling if all of my sudden headache finally left. I groaned, finally feeling back to normal. When I looked down, the man was still on the floor shaking, muttering, and whimpering. Groaning again as I walked up to him and grabbed his shirt, pulling him to a standing position from his collar. He kept muttering saying “please don’t, please don’t” as I helped him to his feet. When he was up, I bent down and grabbed his cane, forcing it hard into his chest. “Watch where your f*****g going,” I said to him, then picked up my backpack and headed toward the subway entrance. There was a crowd of people watching our performance, but they departed as I walked past them to the station. They let me pass without any problems, but I could here them say “such a violent boy” and “that poor man, it’s a good thing he wasn’t injured” and “they should lock all those gang members away somewhere” underneath their breaths as I passed. Since I was already in a bad mood, I decided to just run across the street from there, ignoring the crosswalk and honking cars as they angrily stopped for me and let me cross. I wanted to get as far away from that area and whatever the f**k that just happened to me as soon as I possibly could. I went down into the subway station, hopped the pay gate, and entered the blue line train without anymore weird events. On the train ride, I thought about everything. Did I really see that hoodie guy? Did he really have a tail and was it really stealing things from people? Somebody should of noticed that he was stealing from them if he was real, Right? And what about my head and eyes after that man bumped into me? Why did they hurt so much? Were these after affects from my wounds from yesterday, or from my body healing to quickly? And what the f**k did that old man mean about devil eyes and why was he so scared of me? I took out my phone and looked at my eyes, they were normal now. What happened to me? Should I be concerned, was Kane right about going to see a doctor? I thought it would be best to talk to Kane about it and decided to shrug off my recent events for later, telling myself I would just talk to him about it when I got back home. He probably heard about this happening to someone before anyways. He knew something about everything. At that moment I decided to go to sleep, waiting until the exit came up for me to go to Rick’s garage.
