Stay & Sojourn

Stay & Sojourn

A Poem by Laura Lynn

After a while the trenches
Uniformly cave in, like
French macaroons made
Erroneously, you can hate,
Noticing within yourself
The things you have been
Harboring in your spirit,
And I shall take a coin
Laughing and throwing it into
The fountain.  I shall be young,
So young again, but wanting
Too much from this life, wanting
Another chance of love, with
you, wouldn't life be different,
At one with God and country,
Uncle Sam keeps pets I guess
From all the tyrants and serious
Grub, we have walked so long
And far, so happily and joyously
Bringing all our hidden talents,
Escaping them to the salient sea
