A Poem by Laura Lynn

An ordeal was presented. Submit me to this painful test.
Bring me some much needed sanity.  I am older than
I was.  I rushed into the public places miles away but
then felt only rushed, trying to find something I couldn’t.
Under the roofs of places, still hoping to find true love.
Deny yourself I read, but I had nothing to deny, except love.
In the dream the land shifted.  The white sands and turquoise
Nonsense of the Atlantic Ocean came to the professor’s yard.
Entitled, he looked down at it, like the hawk he had been.

Abolition of man has just begun. They
Believed others should die, used ammunition.
Ostriches need saving, and otters,
Lake creatures galore, a call to action.
I see writers’ modesty, but fruitful encounters is the
Truth. Gratefully the firefighters deal with arson.
Someone will be there to greet today, and
I will not be beaten, stirring things around in my cauldron.
Oh, the circus man shot out of a cannon!
Nickels will be thrown into the fountain with quarters.
Easy does it, just carefully let it down, slipping the syllables over…

Okay, your bolding of the beginning lines lead me to believe this was an acrostic opening, then I saw the word . . . hmm . . . I don’t know this one, Google highway here I come. All I could find was the Italian to English translation for ‘Habit’ so forgive me if reading this wrong; also if this is you intention, you may want to cap the ‘t’ in ‘then’.

It seems you’re speaking of the cycle and fall of man through arrogance and ignorance, humanity will destroy and corrupt itself, but never learn from their failures, instead they will repeat their folly, stuck in the habit of their foolishness, meanwhile, the creatures of the earth will continue to strive because they live just to live, never giving into temptation, greed, or overthrowing their kingdom. I may be reading this wrong. I apologize if I am, I sometimes read into things that aren’t there.
