fixed habits, creature of habit

fixed habits, creature of habit

A Poem by Laura Lynn

For the benefit of another age

Aggregate masses see the truth of the age, extending across boundaries.
Blame eats the minute like my grandmother ate rice cakes. I soak in
inviolate memory, a man who is himself, the body which I could not have.

There is another body, they tell me, neither his nor here.
Unprovoked, unquestioning, not treated with respect or desire.
Decibels have pierced ears.  Why was I born with this face and this

Introduction to the world?  The kingdoms beyond are more interesting.
Neglected new moons come and go.  I look back at the virgin
Aggression beat out of me.  He did not care, would not believe me.

Requiem for all the beautiful people I wanted to live with.  I am unkind, find me so but may Il loved.
Inside the evening carries on with calm. Still caught in a trance, wanting to please him,
Organized into a corner of the world, barely moving.
