Equality before law

Equality before law

A Poem by Laura Lynn

Angels, pretty people with wings, they hover.
Bloated dead creatures, dressed in seaweed cover,

Blobs dredged up from salty water.  Get your bug
Repellent for the hike, roll up your prayer rug.

Obstinate terrain, war and economy.
Nonexistent love, my angry family.

Trophy of love, I would do anything for.
Sauntering hero we saw him with folklore.

Aloof and with his riches, and we women
Repeating creeds of storybook ambition.

Environmentalists strive to preserve the land,
Asking cowhands to join hands with coastlands.

Block me from your world; I need a new field.
Blemishes from age look much better concealed.

Repair my body and mind, sweet heat, what
offhand remarks have made their way into this hut.

Nonentity is a matter of perspective.
Tropical climates both sportive and restive,

Savage seem, but their work goes on the same,
Altars for Sunday, working for a name.

Noodles and company for dinner with friends.
Trot along with your enemies now godsends.

Eminent act, we’ve donned, it is not fitting or
applicable to our cause or station, for

Blessings await us, we are ready with our sorry
blockade, marking time and drinking lemonade.

Replenish me, Lord, from this drought of mind,
Ordain me a high priestess, not just to find

Nooks, one wall meeting another wall. Playing
truant with sinners and tax collectors, now I’m praying.
