By valor and arms

By valor and arms

A Poem by Laura Lynn

Approaching his velour jacket with caution, I felt it. A
Brimful. Perhaps the stranger’s cup overflows.
Bring around your children or family and dream
of catfish and cotton from Mississippi.  Shooting
Rubber bands for fun in spare office hours while
Dinner is in the oven or on the table, doesn’t make sense.
Approaching the evening hours with confusion about
Rubber gloves for washing dishes without our machines.
Essentially there is less housework for despondency.

Age groups move like packs of wolves through school.
Button up coats in winter.  The chain reaction of envy is about to
Begin, so we button our lips, while you put on a shirt and tie.
Of magnolias and hospitality, we have been deliberating.
Talent scouts were out in the mall, supposedly looking for models.
Talkative, is the talk actually necessary, actually doing anything?
Overriding the regulations for exceptions, there was something.
Nervous energy kept us going, took us somewhere not towards
Ailment or immobility.  Travel, do I live for that?  Or love, must it
ruefully be exchanged for love?  Let it not be between these two
Essentials, why not go there with a team? Let’s join hands! Door

Ajar, the woman put her foot in the door to let the women walk in and out.
Bring in your snacks for this little renegade (preschool) party we’re having.
Bring out your ninnies.  Everyone gets a pair of panties over there. The
Outfit he or she wore was simply striking.  We had a great time not
Trifling with love except for the young, this next terrifying generation.
Sketch this portrait…smiling faintly, he walks through the portrait.
Airbags blow up after the dummies hit the post.  The handsome
Ruffian’s ruffled hair looked more than appealing, his prowess made him
Enviable.  Everybody wanted what he had. Then they got enviable too.

a landscape painted here...a portrait of someone who had everything but inside felt lost...

appearances can be really deceiving...and love should just be given without expectation...but it won't necessarily be returned....
