A Black Cloaked BoyA Chapter by Kurai.MerodiThe first chapter/introduction to "Pure Air".
Loud belly, laughter echoed through out this old run down bar that was constructed out of rough wood from the near-by forest. Spider webs clung to every corner collecting dust and food. Banging of cups and drips of beer fell to the old rickety tables that had splinters sticking out at random angels.
"Are you really the Jerry? Jerry Misle?" A young mans voice? No, a teen-ages voice, around six foot two and six-teen? "I saw you in that tournament yesterday! You smashed your opponent to the floor! Amazing!" Wrong, seven-teen. Cocky laughter followed the boys statement then a deep voice answered "Ha! Of course I did! It's only natural. I mean, I don't want to be cocky but, I am the best fighter in this bar! Wait, no... in this city!" Four foot two? Thirty-five? I screeched my ratchet chair back and walked over to the fan and the shorty. The fan had golden hair with brown eyes with a simple chain around his neck. And he was wearing a white shirt with a string of leather tying his shirt together at the V-necked top with a simple black well fitted pants. The shorty was sitting down and had a brown full leather cloak on with black duck feathers on the hood which had now fell off his head as he looked up with dull brown eyes at me, his hair was a simple brown moss colored and it was reseeding at the front. I stood their for a couple of minutes before I spoke. "Name?" They blankly stared at me. I was about to repeat my self but the shorty answered. "Me? Is that question directed at me?" "I am looking at you, aren't I?" "Hah! Sorry little boy but I can't see your face under your hood." "Annoying." Everything seemed to stop then, did i say something wrong? "What?" "I said annoying. Just what is your name and are you any good?" "Misle, Jerry Misle. And yer, the Jerry Misle before you ask. And sorry but I don't do autographs." He looked me up and down then added "Well, at least not for ugly things" He laughed and his groups of lackeys behind joined. I don't know that name, is he meant to be famous? He does act like a big-shot. Also, when did I ask for his autograph? "You didn't answer the last question. Are you any good?" I repeated myself and it's starting to get annoying. He laughed again and finally answered but not the kind of answer I want "Of course. I'm good at a lot of things. So, what kind of thing are you talking about?" "Magic" I answered simply. Every one went quiet. Whispers flew across the room, glances shot, waiting, anticipating the outcome. "Yer. I got the best magic gear available." I stared at him. Looking at every thing, from the top of his mossy hair all the way down to his long legs. Wait. Long legs? By my calculations he's meant to be four foot two. Why are his legs long? "Can you show me?" I'm really intrigued now, I want to know why my calculation were off. "Show you? How?" He's smiling like he's under control. "Yer, fight me. That counts as showing, right." Stand up, already. "Here? Hah! Sorry, you'll get broken in the first few seconds" He crossed his abnormally long legs and looked real smug. I'm really getting annoyed now. I glare at his legs when I realize that his legs are too skinny compared to his body. I glance back up at him and smirk. "Come on shorty. Just fight me, I shouldn't be a problem, right? I mean you are the best in the pu- oh, sorry, city." Will this do it? His eyes are piercing mine under my hood but i don't care, he's finally going to start. "Did, did you just call me shorty?" "Yer, I did. Well, unless you count a four foot two, thirty-five year old man average height then..." I was suddenly flying back toward the rotting wood wall and as I looked at the man that was now standing up in a punch position i notice that he has a black bracelet on that has small white gems embedded in it. Half a second later I was berried in wood that had wood lice crawling out, scurrying to find another shelter. I heard sounds of people whispering saying things like: is he okay? Or that's got to hurt. Then the shorty s voice breaks through the rest of the noise "I warned you. I told you, didn't I? You would get squashed like a bug the second we start." "Will, you shut-up? Your idiocy is really annoying." I pushed the ratchet wood off of me then stood up firmly while brushing of the small shards that was caught on my cloak. I looked up at him through my blood red hair. He was just standing, getting even more and more angry. He threw another punch towards me without moving an inch, I saw the gems on his bracelet shine. I stood still not doing anything. The punch was like a concentrated gust of wind heading in my direction. I stood waiting for it to pass. And as I thought, the power split and went around me. People stepped back and stared at the floor in front of them that now has a deep and wide crack from the shorty and carried on to me. As peoples eyes followed the crack their mouths dropped as they see that the crack splits at my feet going in two different direction. I hop over the deep crack and glide on over to the shorty. As I do I take a lone wood lice off my shoulder and let it crawl on to a table I passed by. "You should be careful, the wood in this pub is home to some critters." I stopped in front of him and bent down and stared at his legs through the cloak "Also, you shouldn't deceive people with your fake legs, Mr Shorty" I then stood up, stretched out a finger and gently pressed the middle of his fore head. He was screaming in pain and was collapsing. I took my finger away when he looked like he was bowing. I then walked over to the door and left with some simple words "Be careful not to destroy any other homes. Oh, and don't forget to pay for the damage you caused." * Damn, I haven't found any clues yet. What is the point of doing this if I can't find anything! And that b*****d! He was just a self-proclaimed title-er! But then again, this city is the furthest away from the capital and is quite... At that moment my foot broke a wooden panel that was on the pier and crashed through... Yer, what was I thinking, old, no that doesn't give it justice. Then how about, ancient. I pulled myself back up and was pulling my hood back on but it didn't get far because I was being dragged down yet again. "Heyo!" I felt like my ear was ringing. I turned round sharply and it was the fan. I don't remember inviting him. "You were so awesome back there! Sorry I didn't get a chance to say it before you left, you were just so awesomely amazing that I didn't know what was happening! I'm Ryder! You?" I stared at him for a while trying to take in what he had just said. It was a failure. I just can not understand the oh, so great language of idiocia. "So? Name? What is your name?" Is that what he said before? I swear it wasn't. "Tsukiakari" I walked ahead not looking back. "Tsukia? What a weird name." I halted "No, it's Tsukiakari. Tsu. Kia. Kar. I. Tsukiakari." For a moment I thought I heard his brain clogs move. "Tsuki, I'll just call you that." "My name is Tsukiakari, it means moonlight. Don't just change other peoples names on your own accord." I turned round and as I did a sudden gust of wind came and blew my hood down, yet again. My red hair flew back and my eyes were shown for a few seconds until I whipped round, grabbed my hood and placed it where it was until a few moments ago. I turn round to face very big brown eyes that where shoved in my face sparkling. I stepped around him and he some how teleported in front of me, was he a mage? I thought, straight after I whipped it out of my mind. "Show me" two simple words... but i had no clue what he was talking about. "What?" "Your eyes" he paused for a brief second before starting again. "Your eyes, I caught a glimpse of them then... let me see them properly?" Well, that wasn't weird at all. "Why should I let a complete stranger I only just learnt the name of look at my eyes 'cause he asked me too?" I paused and realized how weird that sounded. Dear Merlin, he's effecting me. "Fine, I'll let you look. I'm not possessive over them any way." I pushed my long, black hood off and let it fall on to my shoulders. I took my hand and pushed it against the bridge of my nose and moved upward dragging my freshly drew blood hair and pinned it to the top of my head reveling two black orbs The light from the red sun set flew into them making then have sparks of purple, red, blue all at once including other mixtures within the blackness. Then a gold lining shone around my pupil, I could see it happen in Ryder's innocent brown eyes. As it happened his eyes grew larger as he saw he gold lead not into a circle but a diamond. A cat eye. He stared for quite a while. And to be honest, it was getting agitating. Kind of like when you have to much chocolate and it gets coated at the back of your throat but you have nothing to wash it down with. Or just a puppy, begging to be loved. Annoying and worthless. "Hey?" He finally spoke. "Are you a title-er?" He paused but soon started again not giving me a chance to answer the question. "Are you going to be in the competition tomorrow? So, are you? Are you? Hey, hey!" "Do you ever shut-up?!" I shouted "Merlin! You're like a dog, continuously yapping in my ear!" I stared at him he did the same back, shocked. I sighed then continued talking, only calmly this time. "Look, sorry. I don't mean to shout but your like a little kid. Now..." I started "Say what you wanna say, but slowly, and ya know, that's so any normal person can understand. 'Kay?" He looked at me, his eyes not shifting. "Sorry, I guess I just got a bit excited..."He calls that a bit? "Ok, so. Are you a title-er?" I sighed happy he finally calmed down but I can't ignore the glint in his eyes that says other wise but I do admire him for being so happy "No, I'm not" I reply. "Oh, are you here for the competition then?" "Competition, I haven't heard of one." I say baffled. "Wow? really? Ok, well. You know about title-ers?" I nod "Well, they have tournaments to see who the best in the region is and there's one tomorrow!" I nod and my facial expression must of told him that I still don't know why this is of any important s' to me. "Ok, ok. I'm getting there. So, if you win three regional tournaments then you can participate in the capital tournament to become the Cover of the country!" He sucked in a breath then started again. "And this year the prize at the capital tournament is a white crystal that is as tall as a man." This piqued my interest so I leaned in closer. "As wide as my arm and it is meant to have some legend with it too!" He stood after doing all his actions, I call a dance, and he was looking at me like a mad scientist on coke. I moved back and then asked "So, what's this legend about?" "The legend? Oh, the legend! The crystal was meant to be owned by Merlin himself! Can you believe that?!" He stood there like a Venus fly trap. "Oh." I walked along a bit towards the harbor. "Where do you sign up?"
