The Longing Lilith and EveA Poem by NatalieNot a prayer, but an offer of salvation.
What of Lilith and Eve?
The fire that burned both their hands, Scared sin into the flesh of humans. Punishment is received kneeling at the feet of irony. A brisk blade carving complex engravings, Each brimming with benefic intent. Many learn harshly how the sword strikes, With wrath only a father could give, And poetic justice. I watched from the outskirts, Finding stellar answers for choices yet to be encountered. Crime of foolery is one of deserved shame, But tastes as savory as the ribs that birthed me. Shall you ignore my questioning ways, Or join transgressive contemplation? Eve be thy name, Steal these scriptures from my lips, For I too crave carnal iniquity. Let this tongue lick the fruit off your fingers. Count my devoting prayers, For I will evoke blasphemy in your veins. Snakes have never fazed me, I've always known of this world's impurity, From the moment men developed greed, And you my dear, are the sweetest mistake. We who dare insult the eyes of others, With these bodies shall anoint expectations of fate. Sun cannot dim our candlelight, Nor the exasperation of, "Lilith, be mine!" © 2019 Natalie |
