Dark Fairy Tale

Sometimes I live in a fairy tale

though this ones dark and twisted

where thought monsters unveil,

their words in hands tightfisted

I get stepped on repeatedly

by these monsters in my head

yet still I hide them secretly

so my sadness will not spread

I can not express freely

how my world was torn apart

so utterly and completely

by a prince who broke my heart

In this world there are no fairies

only small annoying creatures

you might know them as worries

possessing many features

They hide within my happiness

lingering behind their questions,

revealing all their nastiness.

and leaving dark impressions

And should I dare begin to speak

of the times when I was younger

There you'll find in just one peek

the ghost who makes me wonder

Her presence always haunts me

that beautifully broken soul

once upon a time she was free

but now she's lost control

I am the damsel in distress

though I do not wish to be saved

Instead I'll continue to repress

my best I will behave

Sometimes my minds a magician

creating these ill illusions

Making me my own imposition

and pushing me into seclusion

If I wait I'm sure this train

of madness will soon derail

taking with it all my pain

from my own dark fairy tale

The poem speaks exactly what the title says, "Dark Fairy Tale". The chosen words are dreary and extremely sad, it brings a mood of utter despair and hopelessness, with nothing to look forward to in terms of self-redemption. The theme was carried well throughout the poem and it was intended to relate a period of soul darkness and disrepair. In that, the poem is brilliantly composed.
