EXT/INT. REHABILITATION CENTER. MORNING. Yuuto stands outside staring up at the building. He takes a deep breath and walks towards the door. TAKAMORI SUMIKO's room is a small, simple white room, furnished with a bed with an end table, and a couch and living chair with a small coffee table. There are a few plants scattered around the room for decoration. There are a few pictures of a younger Yuuto pinned on the wall near the bed. Sumiko is watering the plants in her room. A nurse comes in. NURSE Takamori-sama, you have a guest. SUMIKO Alright. The nurse walks out and Yuuto walks in. When he sees her back towards him, he has a flashback. The quick flashback shows a shadow of a woman holding a knife in a dark room. Yuuto comes back from the flashback to see Sumiko staring at him. YUUTO Mother? SUMIKO Yuuto? Is that you? Yuuto is astonished by her sweet aura, he starts to shake. INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. MORNING. Kazuo's kitchen is fairly large with a large amount of counter space. There is an island that also acts as a bar in the center with a few bar stools. Ninette walks into the kitchen where the cook is fixing breakfast. Ninette is in a nightgown. She is out of the sling but her arm is still bandaged. She sits at the island. The cook notices her. COOK Good morning, Princess. How did you sleep? NINETTE I slept very well, thank you. It seems awfully quiet around the house. Where is everyone? COOK The master has left for headquarters. Takamori-san went off without saying a word early this morning. NINETTE Oh, alright then. COOK But the master told me that you need to be taken good care of. Your breakfast should be ready soon. NINETTE Thank you. I will go change now. She walks out of the kitchen. EXT. YAKUZA HIDEOUT. MORNING. Government vehicles are surrounding the building. Daisuke and Shinobu are also there with a new government van. The back door is open and Shinobu has more of his equipment out and ready. Kenta walks up to the van. KENTA Good job, you guys. You tracked these guys down quickly. SHINOBU We need more information about this group. We've found loads of financial records which explained why they are after Princess Ninette but nothing else. KENTA Why are they after her? DAISUKE Her father took money that was going to be used to buy the princess' hand in marriage. KENTA Crime lords should never be messed with. DAISUKE We're hoping this place will have some more information hidden away somewhere. KENTA I'll be surprised if it does. More organized yakuza groups would not keep all of their documents in one place. SHINOBU Well, hopefully we can find something new. KENTA Where are your other team members? DAISUKE Ishikawa is at headquarters and Kawano had some personal business to attend to. KENTA And what about Takamori? DAISUKE Ishikawa called and told us he left early this morning. He apparently left a note saying he would return after he was done with a few things. KENTA Alright. Well, until we can find out some more information or you get attacked again, there is really not much to do. You can't go after anyone without knowing who to go after. SHINOBU That might be a good thing, especially for Kawano. KENTA Why do you say that? SHINOBU Today is the anniversary of his wife's death. I would be surprised if he will be of any help to us in the next couple of days. He has to take care of his son. KENTA I see. Well, I will call him and let him know to take today and tomorrow off. I'm heading onto headquarters. I hope you find something interesting. When you do, bring it to my office. DAISUKE Yes, sir. SHINOBU Yes, sir. Kenta walks away from the van back to his car. Another government agent walks over to the van with a box full of folders and paperwork. AGENT We've found files on the group itself and its members. Daisuke takes the box. DAISUKE Fantastic. We'll look through these back at Ishikawa's. INT. RYOICHI'S APARTMENT. MORNING. Ryoichi is standing in the kitchen cooking breakfast at the stove. His cell phone rings twice before he answers it. RYOICHI Kawano Ryoichi. (pause) Watanabe-san, good morning. (pause) If that won't be a problem for the rest of the group. (pause) Thank you, sir. I will come back to work on Monday. (pause) Thank you, goodbye. He hangs up and notices Ken'ichi in the doorway dressed for school. He has a frown on his face. Ryoichi starts cooking again. RYOICHI Ken'ichi, I have breakfast almost done. There's a silence. KEN'ICHI It's today, isn't it? Ryoichi stops what he is doing. RYOICHI Yes, it's today. Ryoichi starts again through a small silent moment. KEN'ICHI Can I not go to school today? RYOICHI Now Ken'ichi, you need to go to school. Your mother wouldn't want you to skip school unless you were very sick. KEN'ICHI (angry) How would you know what mom would have wanted! You were never home to care about either of us. Ken'ichi runs back into his room and shuts the door. Ryoichi turns everything off and walks over to his son's door. RYOICHI Ken'ichi, open the door. Please. There is silence. Ryoichi puts his back up against the wall and slides down to sit. The door slowly opens. Ken'ichi sits down next to him. KEN'ICHI I'm sorry, dad. Ryoichi pats Ken'ichi's head and pulls him closer. RYOICHI It's okay. I know it's hard. KEN'ICHI (crying) I miss her, daddy. RYOICHI I know, (starting to tear) I do too. Ryoichi holds Ken'ichi as he cries. RYOICHI I have an idea. KEN'ICHI (sniffling) What? RYOICHI My boss has given me today and tomorrow off. Maybe we can throw a little party to celebrate the life that she did have and let's only remember the good memories we have of her. KEN'ICHI Who are we going to invite? RYOICHI No one, just us. We can try to cook our favorite dish that she used to make for us. We can make a cake and do fun things that she used to do with you. I remember you always helping her make the cakes for her business. KEN'ICHI Okay, can I help you get things ready. RYOICHI Of course, which means you can stay home from school. KEN'ICHI (smiling) Okay, let's go to the store. RYOICHI Let's go! INT. REHABILITATION CENTER. MORNING. Yuuto sits quietly on one of the chairs. He watches as Sumiko pours some tea into the cups on the coffee table. SUMIKO I'm sorry I don't have anything to eat. YUUTO It's fine. She sits the tea kettle down and sits across from him. She keeps a smile the whole time. SUMIKO So, what have you been doing? I haven't seen you in fifteen years. That would make you twenty-eight now, wouldn't it? YUUTO Yeah. It's been awhile. SUMIKO What do you do for a living? YUUTO I... work for the government. SUMIKO Oh, very interesting. Tell me about what you do. YUUTO I can help examine people. I can read body language. I can tell what emotion someone is feeling just by looking at expressions. SUMIKO Fascinating. YUUTO It is. There is some silence. YUUTO You look well, better than the last time I saw you. SUMIKO They take good care of me here. YUUTO That's good. How long have you been sober? SUMIKO Five years now. I left the house and moved into your aunt's house. She insisted that I come here. So I did. Silence. SUMIKO Where did you go, fifteen years ago? Yuuto looks up at her. YUUTO I went to Nagano. I had saved up some money from various jobs around town and took the train. There were some people there who took me in. I never stayed in one place though. I came back to Tokyo various times for jobs but moved away just as quick. SUMIKO Did you run away because of me? Yuuto is stunned. He quickly looks away from her. YUUTO I don't know why I did it. I wish I did. SUMIKO What do you mean? YUUTO I have severe amnesia. I tend to forget parts of my life very easily. It had nothing to do with you, I'm sure. However, I wanted to ask you something. Something that we never discussed when I was younger. SUMIKO Go ahead and ask. YUUTO What happened to my father? Sumiko's eyes widen. She takes her teacup and takes a sip. SUMIKO Your father? YUUTO I don't recall you ever being married, and I don't remember there being a father figure in the house. I was wondering if anything had happened to him before or after I was born. Sumiko looks away. SUMIKO Oh, I forgot I had my support group to go to. I have to leave. She places the cup down and walks towards the door. SUMIKO I'm glad you came, Yuuto. Please come back whenever you can. She walks out. Yuuto looks around and sees the pictures on the wall over by the bed. He rises and walks over but his foot hits something. He looks down to see a box. He picks it up and opens it, spotting a photo of his mother and a man. He closes it and walks out of the room, taking the box. INT. OGAWA APARTMENT. LATE MORNING. Natsumi is packing some clothes in the bedroom. She hears a knock on the front door. NATSUMI Coming! She walks into the living room towards the door. She opens it revealing ITO MEGUMI, Natsumi's younger sister. Megumi is a very colorful and energetic person. NATSUMI Megumi! MEGUMI Hey, sissy! They share a very energetic hug. NATSUMI Well, come in. Megumi enters looking around. She spots the boxes that are piled up against the wall. MEGUMI You haven't finished unpacking yet? Natsumi walks into the kitchen, Megumi following. Natsumi starts to make tea. NATSUMI It's almost done. I haven't had time to unpack lately because I've been trying to find a job. MEGUMI Ah. Well, where is that handsome husband of yours? Mom and dad wanted me to give him something while I was down here. NATSUMI He's at work, has been since five o'clock this morning. MEGUMI What does he do that requires him to be up earlier than six? NATSUMI He's a scientist for the military. I told you that. MEGUMI Oh yeah. NATSUMI (under her breath) He's not doing his normal job now. MEGUMI Really? What do they have him doing? NATSUMI I really don't have the authority to say, but he's doing a covert mission. Megumi's eyes widen in excitement. MEGUMI That is too cool! Is he doing all of the cool stuff you see in those American crime shows? NATSUMI Megumi, it's not as cool as they make it out to be. MEGUMI Well, that's no fun. NATSUMI Though he did come back a couple days ago smelling like gun smoke. MEGUMI So he is doing all those cool things. NATSUMI You are too naive, Megumi. Shinobu could get hurt, or worse, killed. I know he wants to do this job, but I don't want to sit around and not say anything. Natsumi puts her hands on her face and starts to cry. Megumi goes over to her and pulls Natsumi's hands away. Natsumi looks away. MEGUMI Natsu, if you need to say it, you need to. He needs to know how you really feel. So, when he gets home today, you need to say something to him. Natsumi nods. MEGUMI Now, we need to figure out what to say to that older sister of ours when we get back. She's hysterical and if I have to hear her cry one more night, I'm going to kill her. Natsumi laughs and Megumi joins in. INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NOON. The basement of Kazuo's house is equipped with training dummies and firing targets. There are also permanent mats down on the floor for martial arts practice. Ninette is on the opposite side of the targets aiming a pistol. Kazuo is behind her. KAZUO Remember to breath. Holding your breath will cause you to lose your target. NINETTE Do you not remember me taking out three men without wasting a bullet? KAZUO I do recall but I also recall you not holding your breath when you did it. You're holding your breath now. Ninette rolls her eyes and re-aims. She breaths in and out before shooting. She shoots right in the middle of the bulls eye. She smiles in satisfaction. When she turns around, she sees Kazuo handing her a shotgun. KAZUO Now, do exactly what you did with this one. Ninette takes the shotgun and gives Kazuo the pistol. She turns and aims. She tenses up and shoots, but when she does she is knocked back onto her back. Kazuo looks down at her. KAZUO Did you hold your breath? NINETTE Yes. KAZUO If you relax, you will keep your balance better. Ninette stands and reaims. KAZUO Don't tense up, relax. Ninette shoots and the force pushes her back but not all the way to the ground. She hands the gun to Kazuo who takes it. KAZUO Very good. How is your shoulder? NINETTE Its fine. KAZUO You were taught how to use a gun, do you know how to defend yourself unarmed? NINETTE My father made me take pencak silat classes. KAZUO Impressive. You fight with weapons in that one, don't you? NINETTE Yes. My favorite one to fight with is called a Sampling. KAZUO And that is? NINETTE It's a silk fabric that can be used in locking techniques. It seems harmless but if I pull hard enough I could break an arm or choke someone to death. KAZUO Remind me to never make you mad. NINETTE I'm sure with your aikido skills, I wouldn't be too much of a threat. KAZUO Keep training and you might. They hear the door open and turn to see Daisuke and Shinobu coming down the stairs with boxes. SHINOBU We have more information from the hideout. KAZUO Fantastic. Kenta told me that the information needs to be organized and that any information about any of the members should be immediately reported. DAISUKE Alright. Shinobu, can you stay here and sort through these files? SHINOBU I have to get home. My wife's sister came in to help her pack. She's going home for a week. DAISUKE Where the hell is Yuuto when we need him? EXT/INT. ABANDONED HOME. NOON. Yuuto is standing outside of an old house. The building looks in good condition except for the broken windows. Yuuto walks up to the door. As he reaches for the door knob, he jerks back. YUUTO Yuuto, get a hold of yourself. He quickly opens the door and slowly steps inside. The house if completely unfurnished, the only light is from the sunlight coming through the broken window. He takes off his shoes and steps further in. The walls are all white but he notices a faint red stain on the far wall. He goes to examine it. He touches it and he has another quick flashback of a smaller hand drawing back from the wall covered in blood. When he comes back he pulls his hand back and looks at it. He starts to breath heavily. He turns around and looks toward a door that was leaning against the door frame. He hears a door being burst open and he collapses. He covers his ears and starts to scream in pain. YUUTO(NOBORU) (screaming) Please... stop! INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NOON. In the study, Ninette and Daisuke are on the floor organizing files. Kazuo comes in from another room. KAZUO Anything yet? NINETTE No, nothing in these boxes are worth anything. It's all junk. DAISUKE Nothing is junk, you have to read to get the full picture. We might find names in some of these business letters or files that can prove useful. Ninette rolls her eyes. She pulls out a stack of files and starts flipping through them. They hear footsteps coming from the hallway. They look to see Yuuto coming in. DAISUKE Yuuto, nice of you to join us. Where have you been all morning. YUUTO I can't talk about it. DAISUKE Why not? YUUTO (tempered) I just can't, is that a good enough reason? He walks back into the hallway and they hear his bedroom door open and close. DAISUKE Does he have a pissed off personality now? KAZUO No, he's the one that answered. Ninette drops the stack of files in her lap to the side and runs off to Yuuto's bedroom door. She softly knocks. NINETTE Yuuto? Can I come in? Kazuo picks up Ninette's stack and sits at his desk to look through them. DAISUKE Do you think something is going one between those two? KAZUO Who? DAISUKE Who do you think? KAZUO I don't know. I don't tend to look into things like that. DAISUKE I was talking about Ninette and Yuuto. KAZUO Even if they did, she couldn't marry him. She's a princess and if you haven't noticed, he's not nobility. DAISUKE There could be some loophole. NINETTE (loud) I can hear you two in there. Daisuke and Kazuo continue their search when Ninette comes back in. NINETTE He's locked the door. DAISUKE Well if I was pissed off, I wouldn't want you in my room either. Ninette is offended. NINETTE Fine. I will go somewhere else. It would be nice if I wasn't locked up in this house and someone would take me somewhere. Daisuke looks at Kazuo. DAISUKE Do you hear something? KAZUO No, I don't. Ninette is fuming, but calms down. NINETTE Fine, I will go to the basement and practice my shooting. So, when I go stir crazy, I won't miss. She walks out of the room through the hallway. KAZUO Thank god she's gone. DAISUKE I agree. KAZUO How did your dinner go last night? Daisuke looks up at him. DAISUKE It went well. We had a nice, simple dinner with no discussion of work. First time in a while that we didn't talk about work. It was actually nice. KAZUO I wouldn't get too attached. DAISUKE Yes, because I'm not attached after two years of dating. I go to her for everything. What about me is making you defensive over her? KAZUO I want my sister to have the best life that she can and I don't think you can give her that. DAISUKE She's smart. If she thought I wasn't good enough for her, she would have already dumped me. KAZUO She is also still naive. She doesn't know what she wants. Daisuke stands, his temper rising. DAISUKE What the hell are you talking about? How can you say something like that about your sister? She's not naive. She told me about that 'last time' you mentioned at the cafe and she said she learned from that mistake. Naive people don't learn, they keep doing whatever is getting them into trouble. Kazuo stands and confronts him. KAZUO If we fail this mission, what do you plan to do? What will she do? You will be in prison, she will be alone. When you get out of prison, you won't be able to support her and she will leave you. You remain hopeful that this will go well but I have had too many tragedies happen to me to keep my hopes up about anything. She needs someone who is not hopeful but practical. That's why you dating my sister pisses me off, because you give her hope. Hope doesn't exist, hope is nothing. YUUTO(REI) Why are you fighting? Daisuke and Kazuo look back to see Yuuto with a stuffed dog. DAISUKE Yuuto, this has nothing to do with you. YUUTO(REI) I'm not Yuuto, I'm Rei. Daisuke stomps over to Yuuto. DAISUKE (yelling) D****t. I don't care who you are. You could be Oda Nobunaga and I wouldn't care. You are not real, you are not even a real person. You are a twenty-eight year old man not a five year old girl. You, Yuuto, Katashi and whatever other personalities are in there are going to ruin everything for us. Yuuto starts to cry. DAISUKE Don't you dare cry! Ninette runs into the hall to see Yuuto and Daisuke. NINETTE Stop yelling at him! She runs over and puts herself between Yuuto and Daisuke. NINETTE Stop yelling! DAISUKE I have had it with his stupid personalities. NINETTE She's only five years old, you don't need to yell at her. DAISUKE It's Yuuto, he's a twenty-eight year old psychopath, not a five year old girl! Yuuto collapses onto the wall. Ninette and Daisuke do not notice. NINETTE I know that, but right now he is Rei and Rei is a young girl! DAISUKE No, he is Yuuto! YUUTO(KATASHI) I'm not even that. Yuuto pushes Ninette out of the way and punches Daisuke, knocking him on the ground. YUUTO(KATASHI) You better take us seriously, you half-wit. I don't like you, even though Yuuto does. Yuuto trusts you because you gave him a chance to work on this mission. If you don't trust him, you won't be able to succeed. This mission is like the military, you have to trust your comrades no matter who they are or what baggage they have. Yuuto has accepted your baggage, you need to accept his. Daisuke rises and straightens himself. DAISUKE Well, he better straighten up then. Daisuke walks out of the room past Ninette. Yuuto watches him go before he collapses. He stands and realizes where he is. He flexes his hand. YUUTO I'm not even going to ask what happened. It'll probably piss me off more then I already am. Yuuto starts to walk back into the hallway. NINETTE Yuuto. YUUTO (yelling) What?! What do you want?! NINETTE I want to help you. YUUTO (yelling) You can't, no one can! (calming down) No one can help me. He exits and they hear the front door open and slam shut, which Ninette flinches at. She walks over to the files on the floor. She starts to look through before she starts to cry. Kazuo walks over to her and kneels down beside her. KAZUO Don't be upset, Princess. NINETTE He's right though. I can't help him. Even if I did, I wouldn't know where to start. KAZUO Why do you want to help him? NINETTE Because he deserves it. He deserves our help because he is going to fight for me, disorder or not. He wants to help and he trusts each and every one of you because you didn't turn him in to Watanabe. I see his trust for all of you but you can't trust Daisuke. He's your leader and if you can't believe in him, you will fail to keep me alive. If anything leads to my death, it will be the lack of trust in this group, not Yuuto's disorder or Daisuke's relationship with your sister. Ninette takes a stack of files and leaves the room. INT. OGAWA APARTMENT. NOON. Megumi and Natsumi are sitting at the kitchen table having a laugh over tea when they here the front door open. SHINOBU I'm home. NATSUMI We're in the kitchen. SHINOBU Is Megumi here? MEGUMI Hey stud! Shinobu enters in the kitchen and him and Megumi hug each other. Megumi sits back down. MEGUMI What have you been up to? SHINOBU Work all morning. Are you staying out of trouble? Shinobu goes over to get some food out of the refrigerator. MEGUMI You know me better than that. SHINOBU (laughs) That's true. NATSUMI Shinobu? SHINOBU Yeah? NATSUMI Can I talk to you in the bedroom for a moment? MEGUMI Well, that sounds dirty. NATSUMI Megumi! MEGUMI I'll keep my mouth shut, sorry. Shinobu closes the refrigerator and him and Natsumi go into the bedroom. Natsumi closes the door behind her. NATSUMI I've been thinking, maybe you should back out of this mission. Shinobu sits on the bed and looks at her. SHINOBU When did you start thinking about this? NATSUMI The night you came home smelling like gun smoke. Shinobu looks away from her. NATSUMI I know you love your job and I'm glad that you do but I'm worried you won't come home one night. I'm worried someone will come to the door handing me your death certificate. I worry about you. I don't want that phone call telling me that you're dead. SHINOBU You won't have to get that call. NATSUMI You can't predict that. SHINOBU I'm not predicting anything. NATSUMI Then stop saying that everything is going to be okay! Shinobu notices her tears streaming down her face. Shinobu stands and walks over to her. He holds her tightly. SHINOBU I'm being careful, Natsu. NATSUMI Please don't talk. I just want you here. Shinobu kisses her forehead. SHINOBU Alright. They stand like that for a few seconds. NATSUMI I have to tell you something. The real reason I'm going home. SHINOBU Okay. They separate and she looks up at him. NATSUMI Shinobu, I'm... Megumi opens the door quickly. MEGUMI Natsu, we need to leave. Our plane is leaving in an hour. NATSUMI Oh no. Natsumi runs out into the living room following Megumi. They grab Natsumi's luggage and head for the door. Shinobu looks out from the bedroom. SHINOBU Do you need me to take you? NATSUMI No, Megumi has a rental car. I will see you in a few days. Please be careful. SHINOBU I will. Say hi to your parents for me. NATSUMI I will. MEGUMI Wait! Megumi runs over to Shinobu and hands him a small present she pulled out of her pocket. MEGUMI It's from mom and dad. They wanted me to give it to you. SHINOBU What is it? MEGUMI That would ruin the point of it being a present. I'll bring her back in a week. Bye. NATSUMI Bye. Shinobu waves and Natsumi and Megumi leave, closing the door behind them. Shinobu opens the present and pulls out a small bracelet. He sees a note under it. SHINOBU 'This is for your first. It's a family tradition. Don't lose it.' My first what? EXT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. MID-AFTERNOON. Daisuke is sitting outside on the front steps. He has an ice pack on his face from where Yuuto punched him earlier. He hears footsteps and sees Yuuto coming through the gate. Yuuto spots him. DAISUKE Hey, I'm sorry about earlier. YUUTO What about earlier? DAISUKE Oh yeah, you were someone else. YUUTO You're the one Katashi punched. DAISUKE There you go. YUUTO I'm sorry about that. DAISUKE And I yelled at Rei. She probably hates me too. YUUTO Rei might be young but she understands a lot for her age. DAISUKE Why do you talk about them like they're real people? YUUTO Because whatever they experience is their memories. Whatever they say or do was by their own conscious, not mine. I can't say they are not real when I don't feel like anything they did happened to me. DAISUKE So that is why you have amnesia. YUUTO (nods) I cannot remember much of my childhood, especially the years with my mother. I went to go see her this morning. DAISUKE How did that go? Yuuto pulls out the picture from earlier out of his pocket and hands it to Daisuke. DAISUKE What is it? YUUTO The woman in the picture is my mother, probably a few years before I was born. I think the man is my father. DAISUKE You don't remember him? YUUTO No. I asked her what happened to him but she didn't answer. When she left I found this and others in a box under her bed. I have a feeling he died in the house we used to live in. DAISUKE Why do you say that? EXT/INT. ABANDONED HOME. LATE-AFTERNOON. Yuuto and Daisuke are standing outside of the house. Daisuke is holding a black bag. Yuuto shows some discomfort. YUUTO You go. Daisuke takes a deep breath and walks to the front door, Yuuto following. Daisuke opens the door, both of them take off their shoes and Daisuke steps further in. YUUTO It's there. He points at the stain on the far wall. Daisuke goes over to it and pulls out a spray bottle. He sprays the liquid onto the wall. YUUTO What are you doing? DAISUKE This is luminol. It is used to find traces of blood. It reacts to the iron found in blood and when I shine an ALS on it, it will glow blue. He pulls out the ALS pen from his bag. YUUTO You can find out if it is really blood? DAISUKE I can take some as evidence and see if Shinobu can analyze it. Now, did you have any pets growing up? YUUTO Not that I remember. Why? DAISUKE Just making sure. Luminol also reacts with urine and fecal matter, but I don't think it would be red if it was either of those. Can you find a way to make the room completely dark? Yuuto grabs the door that is off its hinges and puts it over the only window in the room and he closes the front door. DAISUKE That should be dark enough. He shines the ALS onto the wall and the stain starts to glow blue. Daisuke turns it off, takes a knife and a petri dish from his bag and scraps some of the stained wall into the petri dish. He then tapes the dish closed. He throws everything back into his bag. DAISUKE Well, that's that. Is there anything else? Yuuto looks around and spots the kitchen. He walks towards it and as soon as he is at the door, he collapses, putting his hands on his ears. He starts to breath heavily. DAISUKE Yuuto! YUUTO(NOBORU) No...no...no... not the knife. Please, I don't...want to hu..rt. Please! Daisuke kneels down and starts to shake Yuuto. DAISUKE Yuuto, nothing is here. YUUTO(NOBORU) Please, it hurts...(screams) Blood... no... its everywhere... please... no more. DAISUKE Yuuto! Daisuke slaps Yuuto hard knocking him on the ground. Yuuto looks around. YUUTO I need to get out of here. DAISUKE Yuuto, is it you? YUUTO Yes, but I need to leave. DAISUKE Okay, we can leave. Daisuke helps Yuuto up and Yuuto quickly runs out of the house. Daisuke follows him. He sees Yuuto staring out past the gate. DAISUKE Didn't you say Noboru was mute? YUUTO Yes, he is. DAISUKE You either have another personality like him that can talk or he is starting to talk. Yuuto turns to face him. YUUTO What? DAISUKE As soon as you reached the doorway, you collapsed and started talking about a knife and seeing blood. You also screamed bloody murder, but it wasn't you. I think Noboru knows about whatever happened in that house. YUUTO Noboru? DAISUKE You don't recall seeing any blood in that house, correct? YUUTO Yes. DAISUKE But as soon as you change into him, all he talks about is blood and pain. Yuuto turns away. DAISUKE Yuuto, were you abused? Yuuto starts to shake. He grabs a hold of the gate. He tenses. YUUTO I... don't remember. I can't remember. It never happened to me. DAISUKE Then how do you explain... YUUTO (yelling) It never happened to me! Both are silent. Yuuto sees a half-empty can of gasoline on the side of the road. He takes it and throws to into the house. He takes a lighter from his pocket and lights the gasoline. He walks out of the house as the fire spreads. Daisuke just stares at Yuuto as he crosses him. DAISUKE Burning down the house won't help anything. YUUTO I know, but its a start. Yuuto walks away from him and starts off down the street. Daisuke looks back at the house and begins to follow Yuuto. INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. LATE AFTERNOON. Yuuto and Daisuke return. They walk into the study to see Shinobu on his equipment with a pile of files in his lap. DAISUKE Hey Shinobu. SHINOBU Hey, where have you two been? Daisuke looks at Yuuto who looks away. DAISUKE Yuuto needed to take me to his old home. We found a blood stain on the wall that needs to be identified. Do you think you can do that? SHINOBU Yeah, do you need me to compare it to anything? YUUTO Compare it to mine. I want to know if its mine or not. SHINOBU Okay. I'll have to go to the lab at headquarters to find anything out. I'll need you to come with me, Yuuto. YUUTO Fine. Shinobu hands the stack of files to Daisuke and picks up his bag next to the desk. DAISUKE What is this? SHINOBU This needs to go to Watanabe. Tell him we have more but this stack is the most important documents. DAISUKE Alright. Daisuke looks through his bag and pulls out the petri dish. Shinobu takes it and puts it away in his bag. SHINOBU I'll need to get either a skin or blood sample from you. YUUTO Alright. Shinobu and Yuuto leave the study and the house. Daisuke walks through the hallway and opens the basement door. He hears yelling coming from below and rushes down the steps. He sees Ninette pinning Kazuo on the floor. NINETTE Is that how its done? KAZUO Yeah, that's how. No, let go before you break my arm. Ninette lets him go and she stands, Kazuo following. DAISUKE What the hell is going on? KAZUO I am teaching her aikido. DAISUKE What was with all the yelling? KAZUO Helps her get into character. NINETTE I'm getting him back for you. Daisuke seems confused but shakes it off. DAISUKE Ninette. NINETTE Yes. DAISUKE Can you do something for me? NINETTE Depends on what I'm doing. DAISUKE Are you and Yuuto close? NINETTE Close as in what? DAISUKE Does he open up to you? I got him to open up a little bit a couple of hours ago about his childhood. Though he doesn't really remember much of it, he feels like he knows something bad happened. NINETTE He opened up a little to me but not much. DAISUKE He needs help. I think if he opens up to someone, he might get better or at least not change as much. What I've noticed is that he changes when his emotions drastically change or there are certain outside factors that change him, hostility being one of them. NINETTE You want me to get close to him. DAISUKE He seems drawn to you for some reason so he might be developing some emotional attachment to you. Be there for him and we might be able to help him understand himself and his past. He needs to know what happened to him. Ninette nods. INT/EXT. RYOICHI'S APARTMENT. NIGHT. Ryoichi and Ken'ichi are in the kitchen. There are dirty mixing bowls on the counter. Ken'ichi is jumping up and down. KEN'ICHI Is it done yet? Ryoichi opens the oven door slightly. RYOICHI I think so. He opens it up fully. RYOICHI Yep, its done. Ryoichi grabs two pot holders and pulls a cake pan out. He flips the cake upside down onto a cooling rack. KEN'ICHI Can we decorate it? RYOICHI It's got to cool first. If you don't the icing will run. You don't want runny icing, do you? KEN'ICHI Nope. RYOICHI While we're waiting, we can go sit up on the roof and watch the stars like we used to do. KEN'ICHI Okay. Later on the roof of the complex, Ryoichi has set out a lawn chair for him to sit on. Ken'ichi is sitting in his lap. KEN'ICHI Daddy? RYOICHI Yeah? KEN'ICHI Do you think mommy is up there? RYOICHI Why do you ask? KEN'ICHI At her memorial, a lot of people were saying that she is looking over me and would protect me. Do you think she is in the stars since its over us? Ryoichi looks up at the sky and finds the brightest star. He points at it. RYOICHI There. Ken'ichi looks up at it. RYOICHI When we die, we become stars. That's what they mean by watching over us. She is shining bright because she knows we are looking up at her. She wants us to see her. So when it's our time, we will be rejoined with mommy. Ken'ichi keeps his focus on the star and hops off of Ryoichi's lap. KEN'ICHI (loudly) Mommy, I miss you. I promise to be a good boy and I promise to take care of daddy. I'll come talk to you every night from now on, just shine bright so I know your there. Ryoichi smiles as he starts to tear. KEN'ICHI I love you, mommy! Ryoichi stands and walks to his son's side. Ken'ichi hugs him. Ryoichi looks up at the star. RYOICHI (loudly) I miss you, Eri. I know I'm not the perfect man but I will do my best to raise Ken'ichi and help him become the best he can be for you. We will live our lives for you and we won't mourn anymore. We'll celebrate your life every year from now on. I love you still and you will always have your place in my heart. Ken'ichi looks up at Ryoichi and Ryoichi looks down at him. Ryoichi smiles at him. KEN'ICHI Do you think she heard us? RYOICHI I think so. INT. SHINOBU'S LAB. NIGHT. Shinobu's lab is filled with several screens and machines. Shinobu is at the main computer while it is searching for DNA matches. Yuuto is looking at the picture from earlier. YUUTO How long is it going to take? SHINOBU It shouldn't take much longer. The population of Japan is a very large database. YUUTO Can't you just compare mine to the sample? SHINOBU I did that already and half of your genes are similar to the sample. That blood did belong to your father. YUUTO So now we are trying to find out who he is? SHINOBU Yes, his DNA should be somewhere in the database. Yuuto grows impatient and turns away from the computer screen. The screen then stops scanning onto a 100% match. Yuuto turns the screen to see it. SHINOBU We have a match. Shinobu moves his mouse and clicks on the matched DNA and a file comes up that shows a simple head shot of the man in Yuuto's picture. Yuuto looks down at his picture and back up at the screen. YUUTO That's him? SHINOBU Sato Ichiro. He was in the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, rank Petty Officer first class. It says he went missing twenty-five years ago. YUUTO He was never found. Yuuto has a flashback of Ichiro reaching for him in a dark room. Yuuto collapses and starts to breath heavily. He grabs his chest. Shinobu runs to him to help. SHINOBU Yuuto, what's wrong. YUUTO(NOBORU) (breathing heavily) She has... a knife... turn... don't let her... she's... dangerous. SHINOBU Who are you talking about? Yuuto. YUUTO(NOBORU) No... Yuuto can't know, can't know, can't know... No, Noboru knows but won't tell, won't... tell. SHINOBU Knows what? YUUTO(NOBORU) No... lady in blue... its a blue dress... knife, blood, red everywhere... (screams) SHINOBU Yuuto, snap out of it. Yuuto stops screaming and falls to the floor unconscious. Shinobu starts to shake him. SHINOBU Yuuto! Yuuto! INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NIGHT. Ninette enters Yuuto's room and looks around. She spots the box on the bed. She opens it and looks through the letters and pictures and locates a sealed envelope addressed to Yuuto. She opens it and reads the letter inside. She hears footsteps and she immediately closes the box and sticks the letter in her pocket. She turns toward the door and sees Kiyomi in the doorway. KIYOMI So you must be the princess everyone keeps talking about. NINETTE Who are you? KIYOMI Don't worry, I'm one of the good guys. I'm Kazuo's sister and Daisuke's girlfriend, Kiyomi. NINETTE Oh, I'm sorry I assumed. KIYOMI No need to apologize. I would act the same way if I was being hunted down. Kiyomi looks at Ninette's shoulder. KIYOMI How's your arm? NINETTE Better. After they got the bullet out, it didn't hurt anymore. KIYOMI That's good. NINETTE Were you looking for Daisuke? KIYOMI Yeah, the butler said he would be back in a few. He left something at my apartment last night and I just came to return it to him. NINETTE Oh, I see. May I ask you a question? KIYOMI Of course. NINETTE Do you worry about Daisuke? KIYOMI Worry? NINETTE I mean, with him doing this mission that might end his career or his life? Kiyomi looks down for a moment trying to think of what to say. She looks back at Ninette. KIYOMI I do. I love Daisuke more than anything. I hope that someday we will get married and raise a family. He's everything to me. NINETTE Do you want your brother to understand that? KIYOMI Kazuo tries too hard to be like our father. I love him and I loved my father, but no one can replace him, not even Kazuo. NINETTE What happened to your father? Kiyomi walks to sit on the bed. Ninette sits as well. KIYOMI Our father died about ten years ago. I was twenty-three, Kazuo was around twenty. He had a stroke and it was very hard on Kazuo. A few months before he died, he had found his mom dead in their home. After dad died, he moved to America. I think living in Japan was too hard for him. He promised my father he would take care of me but now I think he is trying too hard. NINETTE He's over protective. KIYOMI Yeah. May I ask why you asked about my feelings for Daisuke? NINETTE I know Ogawa is married and I'm sure it is hard on his wife. I'm having those feelings for someone. He has so much going on in his life and then he has to protect me. If something goes wrong in his mind, he might die. KIYOMI Are you talking about Yuuto? Ninette looks away. KIYOMI There is no reason to be ashamed by it. Love is a natural thing. You care about him and that's understandable but can you accept his baggage? Ninette looks back at her. NINETTE I cannot love him, even if I wanted to. KIYOMI You must marry nobility. NINETTE I find it unfair though. He deserves love. I don't think he was shown much love as he grew up. Maybe that is why he is the way he is. KIYOMI He will find it eventually. Maybe your love and care for him is all he will need. Kiyomi rises and goes to exit the room. NINETTE Kazuo said that Daisuke gave you hope and that you didn't need to be with someone that gave you false hope. Kiyomi turns back to her. KIYOMI He might not know it, but Kazuo needs love too. That is the only hope Daisuke has given me; hope that I can be loved. Ninette nods and smiles. Kiyomi walks back to her. He reaches into her purse and pulls out a folder. KIYOMI Give this to Daisuke for me? I really need to get back home. I have a conference early in the morning. Ninette takes it and nods. KIYOMI Thank you. And, princess, love Yuuto the way you want to love him. If you think he needs it, don't hold back your feelings. Let him know you care. People like him need to know someone cares about them. Kiyomi exits the room. Ninette looks down at the folder and opens it to the first page. She starts to read. NINETTE Sakamoto clan? She sits down on the bed and starts to look through all of the papers and sees pictures of different men. She comes across one that she finds striking. NINETTE Sakamoto Seiichi? MEMORY Ninette is sitting in her father's office back in Monaco. Her father is on the phone. ALBERT Sakamoto Seiichi (pause) of course, I have kept my word (pause) Yes, the money was enough (pause) INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NIGHT. Ninette closes the folder. She hears Daisuke and Shinobu coming down the hallway. Daisuke enters first, followed by Shinobu who is holding Yuuto up on his shoulder. Kazuo enters last. NINETTE What happened to him? Shinobu brings Yuuto over to the bed and lays him down. SHINOBU He's fine, he just fainted. DAISUKE Was it because of what you found? SHINOBU I think so. We found that the DNA you found on the wall belonged to a Sato Ichiro. He is the same person in the picture Yuuto has. We also found out that he has been missing for twenty-five years. Yuuto was only three when he went missing. DAISUKE How fresh was the blood? SHINOBU It coagulated twenty-five years ago. I was surprised I even got DNA out of it. Whoever cleaned that place didn't do a very good job. A stain wouldn't have gotten me much, so there must have been some dried blood left on there. DAISUKE So, if the blood is twenty-five years old and he went missing that long ago, he might have been killed in that house. KAZUO We can't be completely sure about that. SHINOBU That's true. DAISUKE What was he like when he passed out? SHINOBU He started breathing really heavily and saying things that didn't quite make sense. DAISUKE What did he say? SHINOBU He said Yuuto can't know, Noboru knows but won't tell, lady in a blue dress, knife, blood, and seeing red. DAISUKE Noboru is starting to reveal more about this memory. He acted that same way at his old house but he only mentioned the knife and blood. KAZUO Is there anyway we could go check the house for anything else that might prove useful? DAISUKE I would say yes, but he burned the house down today. Ninette looks at Yuuto. NINETTE What are we going to do about it? SHINOBU I say we should step out of it. From what I've seen, he isn't taking the news well. If we dig any deeper, it won't be good for him or us. KAZUO I agree. We should focus on our intended purpose. He can figure out his past on his own time. Daisuke looks at Ninette. DAISUKE They're right. We have to focus on your safety. NINETTE I understand. She hands him the folder. DAISUKE What is this? NINETTE Kiyomi brought it over just a few minutes ago. She told me to give it to you. DAISUKE Thank you. We will discuss the mission when Kawano gets back on Monday. Watanabe-san wants to talk to us then. Daisuke, Shinobu, and Kazuo leave the room. Ninette sits at the head of the bed and places Yuuto's head on her lap. She strokes his hair as she starts to hum. She sings in English. NINETTE (singing) Though the days are long, twilight sings a song of the happiness that used to be. Soon my eyes will close, soon I'll find repose and in dreams, you're always near to me. MONTAGE. Ninette's singing will continue during the following scenes. During this verse, Ryoichi and Ken'ichi are decorating the cake on the dining room table. There are cake decorations everywhere. Ken'ichi is piping icing on the cake but he messes up but they both laugh. Ryoichi looks over at the picture of Eri on the bookshelf and smiles. NINETTE (voice over singing) I'll see you in my dreams, hold you in my dreams. Someone took you out of my arms, still I feel the thrill of your charms. Lips that once were mine, tender eyes that shine. They will light my way tonight, I'll see you in my dreams. During the next verse, Sumiko is in her room watering the plants by her window. She looks over at the pictures of Yuuto on the wall. She pulls out a picture from under her pillow and smiles at it. It is of Ichiro. She holds it close to her heart as she walks back over to the window. She looks up at the moon. NINETTE (voice over singing) In the dreary day of another day, you are far away and I am blue. Still I hope and pray through each weary day for it brings the night and dreams of you. I'll see you in my dreams, hold you in my dreams. Someone took you out of my arms, still I feel the thrill of your charms. Lips that once were mine, tender eyes that shine. During the last part, it is later that evening and Yuuto is awake on his bed looking at the picture of his parents. NINETTE (voice over singing) They will light our way tonight, I'll see you in my dreams. They will light out way tonight, I'll see you in my dreams. Ninette's singing is over, montage ends. Yuuto stands up and looks into the mirror. A dark figure in a blue dress is behind him. He looks back but nothing is there. When he looks back into the mirror, it is back. He takes the glass cup from the bedside table and throws it at the mirror. The shattered mirror falls onto the floor. When he looks at the glass, he still sees the figure in each of the shattered glass pieces. He falls down to his knees and weeps. YUUTO (crying quietly) Why won't you leave me alone?
