Abandon The Butterfly

Abandon The Butterfly

A Poem by WynterPhoenix

No one cared for the caterpillar

Before it became a butterfly.

Just a worthless little bug,

With many furry legs.

The caterpillar grew anxious.

She wanted you to see.

A bug can morph into one

Of nature’s masterpieces.

At times it’s several days,

For other’s several weeks.

But this caterpillar was determined,

She wanted more.

Several months it took,

She grew and grew some more.

She shed her skin

And let herself die,

For brilliant art is where she was aiming.

Finally ready to break down the walls,

She pushes with her beautiful wings.

Her wings a mask covering

Who she once was.

Hiding her true colors.

Charades is a game played by many,

But for her, it’s her life.

Given the facts,

In your honest opinion

Could you blame her?

No matter what she did

To the world she was always

Just a bug.

An insect.

Society changed her,

And she feels more alone than ever,

Because she forgot who she was

On the inside.
