Deck of Cards

Deck of Cards

A Poem by H. E. Schreiter

It has a heart

But no one to love

It has a diamond

But no one to wed

It has a club

But doesn’t hit

It has a spade

But doesn’t dig

It’s used for war

And leisurely fishing

It’s used in the living room

And sometimes the kitchen

It helps you win

It makes you lose

Which will you play

You have to choose

It can make you rich

It can make you poor

If you play for money

Lady Luck’s game

One of chance

One of mystery

Always changing

With a flick of the wrist

Never ending possibilities

You could win big

You could lose everything

You could just make it by

It all depends

On the luck of its draw.
