A Lover Lost

A Lover Lost

Romance in a darker form...

                                        A Lover Lost

One dark and stormy night I heard a voice upon the breeze,

Whispering tales of far off lands with dark and choppy seas.

I closed my eyes and heard his voice the one I’d learned by heart,

Remembering that fateful day of when he did depart.

He kissed my lips and held me close as we whispered our goodbye’s,

Then on that ship he sailed away but something went awry.

The ship capsized and all was lost my lover taken by merciless sea,

A fortnight to the day I learned my lover would never return to me.

From that day on I’ve heard his voice dance gently upon the waves,

The sea shanties of loved ones lost and trapped in watery graves.

I heard his songs as I walked the shore and all alone I wept,

The depths of my lament too much so off the cliffs I leapt.

One dark and stormy night I joined my lover’s watery grave,

And there we’ll spend eternity dancing together beneath the waves.

I have to apologize, I thought I reveiwed this beautiful poem yesterday, but I am not sorry I didn't for it allowed me the opportunity to read it again. A love story so very haunting and filled with sadness and desire, my mind drinks your words as if the sea itself has engulfed me. Very nice my friend.

this made me think of two films at once..."Message in a Bottle" and the old 1944 "the Uninvited"---
such a haunting piece....i do feel there are voices carried from sea to shore, in those lofty breezes.
beautifully sorrowful write.

Hmmmm. Very gothic! I like the language for that reason and that she's speaking to us from the afterlife. Nice touch.
